Anyone sign marriage documents cause it just made sense at the time (insurance, buying home) and then had a ceremony afterwards?

Yep. We don't consider our paper signing day to be our anniversary, just our wedding day. People look at it differently and that's fine. There's no right way to get married.

Yep. Turns out it didn't make sense lol

That's okay OP you were just asking a question!

We’re engaged, had plans to get married 2020/21 but Covid hit. I lost my job/insurance thankfully he kept his. But insurance and buying a home seems like it makes sense to sign the papers now

like

Yeah that makes total sense, I also know of couples who have had tiny ceremonies with just family to get their life together started and will have a ceremony later

I’d didn’t but I know many people that have. Do what makes sense for you.

Sign marriage documents? You mean actually get married?

Yes!

SO and I just bought a home, been together for 8 years now. Not married yet but we know we will, just not a priority since we rather spend the money we would on a wedding for our house down payment. Still debating if we would even have a wedding celebration post Covid and would be more than happy to just go to the courthouse.

Yep I did

Yeah, that's totally normal. I got married three times, between the paperwork, formal religious ceremony, and big party. I count the party as my wedding date, and don't feel like it took away from anything (if anything, I got to enjoy being the excited bride more often!). But don't get married / sign the paperwork for convenience if you aren't 100% sure you're getting married for real.

Yep. Hubs needed the health insurance and our wedding a few months away. Signed and had the ceremony later

Yes. I did that almost 2 years before the religious ceremony our parents insisted on having.

Nope, I told everyone we were legally married. No point hiding.

We were supposed to get married in July but moved it to next year bc of Covid. We got a domestic partnership in case one of us lost our job, then we could go on each other's insurance. We also bought a house together in May. Not sure what the differences are buying a home married vs a domestic partnership vs single Mainly did a domestic partnership rather than legal marriage because the courts were closed but the county clerk's office was open at the time

My sister and her fiancé were supposed to have their wedding this year but for obvious reasons didn’t. They’re going to court and then having a little ceremony (few family members present for vows and pics) afterwards.

I recently switched employers. I used to have Kaiser Permanente health insurance & loved my doctors. Have been with them for almost 3 years. My new insurance isn’t so great, but because of employer contribution, it’s affordable to go that route. Has anyone paid for health insurance out of pocket? Thinking of just paying for it to keep KP, but it’s a difference of ~$200. Or just find new doctors?
