Got it for free when I made Diamond on Delta. Yes, you get to the front of the line faster, but once you're there, you're still dealing with the unwashed masses and moronic TSA agents. Also not in enough airports to be impactful yet.
Clear is a novelty. Not enough locations.
Your statement about how Pre lines are not open at busy times is simply not true.
Pre is always chocked full of clueless people that didn't pay, don't know how it works, clogs the lines. This is obvious. Plus Pre lines aren't open at many busy times or TSA closes them unpredictably.
Why is pre check a disaster?
Never had this issue. However, I'd rather not have to take off my shoes and take my laptop out of my bag, than pay $200 a year for CLEAR just to cut the line.
CLEAR just lets you skip the line. I have actually found more clueless and slow people in the regular line, because they aren't frequent fliers. The frequent fliers usually have pre check.
@D2, Sometimes it's true depending on the airport. In a small Midwestern airport, they quite frequently close the PreCheck line when not enough TSA employees are working, like when many of them are taking summer vacation. Which is exactly when there are TONS of summer vacationers are going through security during busy hours and clogging up the only line they have.
I used it in San Jose for a trial month, cancelled before incurring charges as it didn't really gain me anything
