Anyone still interviewing with Corona? Nyc is basically half-shut down so my upcoming interviews are remote... Curious how many companies are comfortable with giving offers out without meeting F2F

Have a video interview this week, so we’re still going here in CA but yes I’m also concerned how secure offers would be given the situation

I read this as "is anyone interviewing with Corona"(beer)

I was like "wow, what a counterintuititive career strategy"

I’m doing a final round interview this week fully remote. When (positive thinking/vibes) I get it, I will have interviewed without meeting a single employee in person.

like

Yeah, I’ve had a potential start date get pushed to June

A friend's midsize consulting firm is doing fully remote hiring and onboarding, they made the switch a week and a half ago

I recently suggested we put a hold on new hires in order to focus on retention during the downswing..

We are delaying hires until in-personal final interviews are possible

Does that mean initial screening and first round could be remote?

Yes, recruiters reaching out to me are saying its easier to schedule calls and interviews with ppl WFH - no travels and meeting conflicts :)

I just got an offer on Friday! Just signed today. They just moved the in person presentation to a Zoom call.

I’m actively interviewing and 3/4 of the companies told me they have halted recruiting at their company 😞 (final round at a startup, first round in consulting, phone screen with PE)

like

Yeah, I’ve got 4 final rounders that are all still going on this week and next. They all seem pretty determined to finish the process. One firm did mention pushing the start date to the summer rather than the initially discussed “two weeks from acceptance”

Two tech**

I understood this as - anyone still interviewing with the company Corona. 😂.

I’m a pretty anxious person and I’ve realized that a remote work environment only makes me more so - not being able to read people’s tone well, email/ping responses being more delayed than they would be in a conversation, the awkwardness of virtual meetings, etc. I’m in therapy and will discuss this there but would love to hear some tips about how people manage work anxiety specifically in a remote consulting environment.

Resume gap: My position will be abruptly end in December (was informed this week). However, I won't be interview ready in the next 2 weeks. So how bad does a gap of 1-2 months appear to tech recruiters? Common knowledge is it is a disadvantage to the candidate from a salary negotiation process. I'm also told hiring decisions at places like AWS & GCP take time and it might be a few months before an offer letter is received.

Interviewing with a small internal strat team (currently 3 FTEs) led by the CSO. One VP was awesome, Ex MBB really energetic/excited is with 1.5 yrs in tenure. Then interviewed with the other VP and Manager. They weren’t great, overall not quite at the same level as the VP in terms of professionalism and pedigree. They were very tactical and felt more like middle managers without vision. The latter two seem to have grown up in the company (3-4 years)

Do you think agencies will allow work from home as needed after their office’s reopen?

Do you think post-covid that companies will ever keep their tech employees in NYC? I’m a software engineer for a financial company and already am probably one of the last people to RTO if/when that happens. But now I’m thinking that this situation has proven that they don’t need to take on the costs of having SWEs in a HCOL city if all of us can WFH/work from a LCOL city with same results. Kinda bummed bc I’m a new hire and I never even got to move there... should I lower my expectations?

Prefacing this with the disclaimer that I only started several months ago so maybe I’m missing something Definitely was interested in the “consulting lifestyle” during recruiting but I think if I were given the choice I would do remote forever with a big reason being that I think I have more time for stuff I like. If I have downtime now I can ride my bike, go hit golf balls, cook, whatever which would not be options if I were traveling or even just working in an office. Thoughts?

Ladies, I had a breakthrough with my boyfriend and I am so proud. I have encouraged him to go to therapy for years. He grew up with a father who is emotionally abusive. He felt like he didn’t need to go because he could just “handle it” (part of the toxic culture he was raised in) so I stopped pushing. Yesterday he told me he was going to therapy to try it out, I said okay, and made him a coffee to go. He came home, hugged me, cried, and read me a list of things he was working on. 🥺💛
