Brady Hurt from Obsidian is the man for anything digital. Great sharp guy. Very resourceful and helpful. Dan fields from aara is also great. Anytime I get a project and I don’t know where to start, they are my first two calls
Having talented and experienced Producers means you don’t need reps to source specialists or to know what small Production shops to reach out to.
In your opinion
@CL1 there's always new skin in the game and reps are a great way to stay on top of it. We all want the best team for the project and there's no such thing as a maxed out Rolodex!
OP to directly answer your last question: Jake Neske is an amazing rep for digital and emerging tech. He also has more traditional production shops like Tool on his roster.
I also like Louisa St Pierre at Bernstein Andriulli for photo/illustration/animation/CGI and fine art.
All the shops are repped and reps take a commission whether you hit them up directly or by pass them. It’s much better to use the reps regardless of your personal connections. Those that aren’t repped are riskier. Reps also tend to be on the look out for newer shops and recos
I use reps to find everyone
Thesupply.com is a cool rep co.
VPD1 it’s a given that it is my opinion.
SP1 reps are a god send when you are entry level and mid career. Once Producers hit EP, the best have direct relationships with talent, are networked and no longer rely on reps as often. That doesn’t mean that Jake Neske/Brady Hurt/Dan F aren’t super valuable; they are. They teach Producers how to identify and cast good vendors , partners, freelancers and how to scope risky emerging tech projects. Plus they are just awesome people on a personal level.
This is super helpful. Thanks for the insights! Never worked through a rep before, as we're a small team with many of our own relationships, but I've met a few recently and now I feel like we should be leaning on them more as we're exploring new styles. Cheers!
P.S. yay for "awesome people on a personal level"! More of that, please. ✌️
HoP1 I think that’s true of traditional shops. It’s not the case in experiential, digital and emerging tech where most small shops don’t have reps.
Ep1. I disagree. Arra was the first digital rep 10years ago that we used all the time. Fake love, hush, etc all experiential shops that were repped. If you’re looking for something so specialized for a particular project. Producers are googling and asking friends and most likely hitting up a partner that no one has worked with consistently in the industry. A risk that has rewards but also requires near perfect communication and management that is often lacking
