I charged more than 500 hours than the 2nd highest person in my group last year as a senior. With wfh and essentially the destruction of work life balance, my physiological state has been deteriorating. I have been more busy in the last 2 months than ever, and it’s taking a toll on me. For my own mental health I would like to discuss this with someone, but at the same time I don’t want this to bight me in the ass say 8 years down the road when I am trying to make partner. If I was in a regular audit or tax group I would have no problem voicing my opinion, but because I am in transactional services I feel like we live by a different standard. Thoughts?

TD SM here - is there a partner or senior manager you’re close with that you can talk to? Times are very challenging today and my experience has been that the groups leadership will bend over backwards to support people (even more so for very high performers). Everyone hits a point where they either need help or to get a break after busting their ass for a year, but it’s hard to always see it from the outside if the person doesn’t raise their hand. Part of being a professional in a demanding high expectations environment is managing your mental health - especially if you’re actually working that much more than everyone else. I wouldn’t worry about your partner case - I’ve had colleagues at my level take extended mental health leaves and they are still on track
