I’ve had many friends (all women) do exactly what you’ve described under the title “of counsel” to the firm. Basically the perks of partner without the expectation of bringing in business to the firm and working part-time or from home most days.

Yeah, that’s what I have in mind. Happy to do the hard work, just don’t want to do hiring/firing, drumming up business, firm management, etc.

Any particular roadblocks to getting there at a small/medium firm to watch out for?

Been practicing for 22 yrs. Currently billing about 1,000 hours a year, with no expectation of bringing clients in. Problem is my firm won't give me the title of counsel, they are keeping at associate

Contacted by a larger firm to do part time work in the same field. I work in a specific area of law so that helped.

What do you mean by “equity lifestyle”?

Lifestyle of the equity partners

Living on draws. Paying into the firm. Paying estimated taxes. It’s lifestyles of the rich and cashless, friend.

Hi, I work under contract for a foreign company as an APM. I have an import export licence and send the monthly invoice to my HR. My benefits include the following in-hand allowances: food, internet, sports, vacation, training and hardware. Plus a yearly bonus.
Can someone help me out as this is new to me, how can I save my taxes? (I have to file ITR 4)

Do you pay your credit cards in full every month?

I ask because I’ve let my credit spending get a bit lax since moving and adopting a puppy recently, so I haven’t been paying them off in full every month like I used to (though still well above the minimum payment, and keeping utilization at 30% or under). It got me thinking about how many people adhere to this advice.

I have an offer from the National Bank of Australia (a third party), with a joining date of October 31. Should I reject it and wait until I receive the offer letter from Deutsche Bank? Any tips for building a client base from scratch? I’m a 4th year associate at a firm of 12 attorneys. I practice in business, compliance, and real estate (primarily on partners’ files) and don’t litigate. Most of the partners’ clients are wealthy friends or friends of friends (not my circle). Associates are not referred business, even cold calls, and so far “networking” events like Chamber of Commerce luncheons have been a bust. I have a somewhat unsteady, gappy work history due to several health issues — serious ones — that have gotten in the way since I passed the bar. My first major health issue I can easily explain as it’s physical, a major concussion. My other health issues are severe depression that affected my ability to work steadily. I’ve been with firms for 6 years. I struggle (not that I’m not intellectually capable of doing this job), I just hate the detail oriented nature of this industry. Everything gets scrutinized so carefully and most things I stayed up late for doesn’t matter.

I just got PIP talk and they are pushing me out next year. I’m kinda relieved. I want to leave law completely and be someone on the operation side. Eventually I want to be an COO.
