Anyone successfully "recaptured" time spent outside the US while on H1b?

I did. Was able to recapture 3 months while transferring H1b from EY to PwC

Cool, what was the process like? My H1b just expired, and I was living outside the US for the most part anyway, only coming to the states for the occasional project...so I've a LOT of time that I can recapture. I've an offer now from another US company that is willing to take on my previous H1b (since even though it has expired, I still have a lot of time left). Just wondering how painful this process is, and what steps I need to take...

Ok. So when you say your H1b expired you mean you completed 6 years and your new company is filling for a new H1b? If that's the case you can't recapture any time. However, if you are in your 5th or 6th year and are transferring your H1b to the new company then during the transfer your attorney will r capture the unused time. You only need to provide suitable evidence of time spent outside the US.(passport stamps for example). How much time did you not use in your current H1b ?

Yes! 3+ months back

@PwC1, I have not completed anywhere near 6 years. More like 3.5 years, at the most, so I have at least 2 years left that I can use. By "expired", I meant the expiry date on my H1b visa went by earlier this year.

I have a pending I-485 and my case was recently “ready to be scheduled for an interview” about 2 weeks ago. I haven’t traveled to my home country for 3 years and was looking forward to going this December … I have a valid H1b that expires in 2023 and would need to get it stamped. There are appts available in my home country. However I don’t have AP (did not apply due to valid H1b). Is there any risk to my GC application if I travel abroad and get a H1b stamp to re-enter the US?

Today my American friend complained how hard for her to get a job .she is financially stressed and hasn’t work for years since she quit and get married. To be honest , I don’t feel sorry for her. As immigrant, I have to work 10 times harder than her and made a lot of sacrifices.I don’t take vacations and keep getting rejected again and again for no visa sponsorship, while she was partying .This year I get a job at a major corporate and plan to apply Harvard business school! Never give up!

Any suggestions on which country to get a new H1B stamp? My current visa will be expired next month. I have a plan to travel to Germany next spring. My home country is on the other side of the world with quarantine still takes place for all visitors. My employer won’t allow working from outside the US during quarantine otherwise I’d fly back home to get the stamp. Just wanted to make sure that I can get a new one on time.

Just curious why do people choose to go through the difficult immigration process and try so hard to stay in the U.S. instead of relocating to Canada? Especially for Chinese and Indians, the long wait for green cards seem never ending, on top of the crazy H1B lottery system. It seems Canada has a relatively easier immigration system and more welcoming culture.

Any advice on how to motivate myself to continue to be a person without wanting to disappear from society? I’ve charged like 60+ hours a week since February with like 80-90hrs a week for the last 2ish months, but so have all of my coworkers. My work quality has noticeably tanked recently and I can’t find a way to force myself to care as much as I used to. I also literally can’t leave bc visa stuff so how do I make this suck less?
