BAH is pretty status conscious. If you leave to a smaller company and then come back they don’t value that experience as much as if you joined a more prestigious company and come back. The upper management is a gossip mill and upper management is pretty high up on themselves.
I left BAH for a smaller firm and hated it. I left after six months and landed at KPMG. I think I personally hated the lack of structure and formal processes that the small firm had. It depends on personal preference but I like to be able to refer to company guidance for protocol or expectations and my smaller firm lacked that.
Overall tho it did help my career, I left BAH as a Sr Consultant but got a huge raise when I went to the smaller firm. Now I’m at KPMG as a Sr Associate and my salary is MUCH HIGHER than it was at BAH. So in the end you could use the BAH experience to leverage a salary increase with the smaller firm and then when/if moving back to a large firm you will be in a new salary level. Hope that helps!
Thank you. I've already done a few rounds of interviews at the small business and the recruiter is unable to tell me if there are more rounds. It's not like I'm being considered for different positions but the lack of structure is what I immediately noticed.
I left Booz for a smaller company for similar reasons. I found that there is less structure, but I think that provided me with more opportunities to learn, grow, and lead. All in all I have liked it. However, I am starting to look at some other opportunities because I feel I can get better compensation elsewhere. Not sure if I will go to one of the big ones or another smaller company. I think that it has helped my career overall. I didn’t feel like there was much room for growth at Booz and their comp. was terrible.
