Anyone take the VRE starting from Fredericksburg everyday? My husband and I like the town but wondering if this ride will be too exhausting. Will come off at Union, so no transfers.

If you had a choice to be a closer to work, I would definitely take it. The amount of random delays, not even taking account that a little rain or snow will almost guarantee a 30 minute delay, happen way too often.

Everyday when I got off the train I felt pretty exhausted and didn’t want to do anything for the rest of the day.

like

I agree! I am 33 weeks pregnant and I can relateb

Norfolk Southern owns the tracks south from Washington DC, and their traffic takes priority. VRE leases rail time slots from them, hence the issues with delays.

It’s better than driving on freaking 95... but, VRE is very unpredictable.. lot of delays

like

Yea I told him no way if I have to drive on 95. There are commuter buses, but buses are so uncomfortable.

Well, it’s all because rent is cheaper...

VRE is available until 6.48 pm I believe

Don’t do it! Way too long and unpredictable

Really? Oh no. 😖

I don’t understand why anyone would live more than an hour door-to-door from work. Your time is worth so much more

A lot more house of course and friends are near.

It's a tough choice to make, sadly, because we're not building enough affordable housing closer to DC, and refuse to invest in transportation infrastructure outside of more toll highways.

like

A real investment in expanded mass transit in the region would be immensely helpful as well. If you build the right infrastructure, that can cut the commute from exurbs from 1+ hours to something more manageable. Adding more HOT lanes isn't the solution, we need to get cars off the road and have expanded rail and rapid bus transit.

like

That is a 100 mile daily commute. What’s the reason for living way out in Stafford county?

I’d consider doing it if I had a low paying job and that was the best option. Otherwise sounds like a big waste of time to live somewhere that is a step down from true DC suburbs in pretty much every way except affordability.

Lot of people live in Quantico, Woodbridge and take it too... it’s very tiring but better than drivibg

More house just means more headaches.... I get the friends part, but who do you see more frequently, your job or your friends?

“Who do you see more frequently, your job or your friends?” as a rationale and a guidepost for living tells me all I need to know about your thought process. Have a great night.

What would you do if your project required you to stay later than 5:30?

What is your general opinion of Teachers' Unions which protect teachers from being removed based on their poor pedagogy over many years?

I worked at a larger credit union. I was a regional manager overseeing 130 people and ten branches. I managed about 2 billion in assets. Sales and service had massive growth in my area. How can I leverage this into a position at a smaller credit union. (Most credit unions are the size of my region). I am running into problems getting I front of people. Thanks for any advice or referrals. I am based in utah.

Should we create a union? Honestly we need one! No more third parties handling our contracts!

From what I read the country has an epidemic that is growing at an enormously fast pace! It seems administration all around the country thinks they can go ahead and behave as if nobody else matters in a school district! Their hypocrisy is an embarrassment and their self-management BS needs to stop! The unions aren't doing anything about it mine believe my administration before me even! We're greater in number and we need to stop the bullying and harassment directed at teachers and students!

Mortgage strategy question: moving from HCOL to MCOL city, selling current house and buying a new one. Will net enough equity from the sale for up to 20% down payment. How do you think about mortgage rates, points, PMI, etc for the new purchase? I'm in favor of putting less down and investing the difference, but not if the terms are worse.

And I'm talking with both a broker and a credit union - is one better than the other?

Husband has ~$15k in a previous employer’s plan when he was part of a union. Current employer does not offer a plan, so cannot rollover. Earnings were ~15% in 2021 in a target retirement date fund and annual fees were $375. Would you leave this here, or is there something else we should roll into and manage ourselves? We are early 30’s so won’t need it for a while. He’ll be done working in the next couple years so won’t have a future employer option either.

Thanks, fish 🤗🐠

How would you equitably split finances in a household (allowing for individual autonomy at the individual level that also sufficiently rewards ones productive behavior and respects the union)? How might this change if there is a significant difference in compensation and hours worked within the couple? Let’s say one partner is an investment banker making $800k working 100 hours per week and one is a teacher making $60k working 40 hours a week. Split 50:50? 100:40 (via hours worked?) Etc?

Where can you find market standard rates for non union talent (usage & session)?

just a reminder that the ny times union called for a “digital picket line” as they go on strike today. and playing wordle counts as crossing the picket line. if you support workers’ rights to collective bargaining, keeping up your streak should not be more important than solidarity with the walk-out.

Any tips on how you all stay motivated?

I’ve been really consistent for about 7 weeks now, exercising and eating better. I’ve lost about 17lbs, but have another 70lbs to go and was feeling pretty demotivated this morning. I did make it to the gym and told myself I just needed to do a light 30 mins of cardio, which turned into 50 mins once I was actually there. But feel like I’m losing some of the motivation / push I had the first 6 weeks.
