FT offers for Software engineering vs Consulting at OW
Hi! Very fortunate to be deciding between Oliver Wyman for consulting and a software engineering position at a large company. The SWE role is $10k higher in total comp, not including stock. Both roles are based out of DC and I am not sure what I want to do long term—would really appreciate any advice!

I experienced brain zaps after I stopped taking Zoloft. It took about two weeks for the zaps to finally stop. If you’re still having them I would definitely talk to your doctor.
It’s the worst. I had unbearable withdrawal trying to get off Effexor, for months after. A psychiatrist told me it could have been counteracted with a temporary low dose of Prozac. Didn’t find this out until later so I don’t have experience, but might be worth asking your doctor about.
It took me 8 months to get off Effexor by tapering down. Still had withdrawals
Yeah, the zaps/shivers are the worst. I’ve only had then a few weeks after stopping meds. But they always make me go back on. I have no first hand experience for how long they last. But I feel you.
I only ever have them at night when I’m trying to fall asleep and I can’t because of.. anxiety. I wonder if it’s all related somehow. *sigh.
😔 I’m so sorry. They are the worst.
Just noticed that we haven’t been fully answering your question. My “brain zaps” (I used to describe them as low key face electrocution before I also googled around) lasted several months (4-6?) after stopping Effexor completely, but to my recollection they gradually tapered off and did not exceed a year. No similar symptoms thereafter.
Sorry if this sounds completely nuts to anyone who hasn’t experienced it, I google it and “brain zaps” or “brain shivers” seems to be the general term people use
