Anyone thinking of shorting the S and P?

I lost $90k shorting the S&P. Don't fight the money printer.

Don’t fight the fed

I did last week. And made a small 25% profit

What do you guys use to short? An inverse or short the actual way

If it goes up 10% will the loss incurred materially impact your finances? That could easily happen with good news on a vaccine.

Have you considered selling in the money covered calls? If it goes down like you predict you collect the premium and it goes unexercised. If not you miss out on potential gains but not all that different than if you had sold now.

Alternatively you could buy puts that pay off if the markets crash and if not you are only out the premium. If you have a short position your loss is uncapped.

I bought a straddle option last week expiring in Oct. I’m betting on pure craziness in the coming months. Don’t feel confident enough to bet against the money printer during election season.

I dabble in SPX puts but I’m not selling my VFINX position to short it.

Hi everyone! Curious if anyone here works for Slack and can shed a little light on the culture and perhaps offer a referral for an associate brand manager position I just saw on LinkedIn. With the Salesforce acquisition are SF employees allowed to refer for Slack roles? Currently a senior analyst with 4 YOE looking to break into a branding role! Thanks in advance.

My firm’s IT (especially system saving and file locating function) is so bad 😐😞 and they keep doing updates no one asked them for just to mess with the stuff we already got a hang of without doing anything about the issues we actually need fixed. Anyone else in a similar boat? Do you bill the client for the time it takes to fix the IT issue (or IT inefficiency generally, like time taken to find a file in a convoluted system)? Or is that supposed to be our non-billable time?

I went to a psychologist and answered an ADHD questionnaire, basically scoring the highest possible score for ADHD. Long story short: the psych told me that since I made it through law school with a decent/good GPA l don’t have ADHD.

Has anyone been told this? I.e., that since you’re a “professional” and have had good grades you don’t have ADHD? I just feel it’s a bit unfair since I had to work myself to the bone just to stay focused and understand the material.

I see a lot of judgement on the fact that QA/SDET's don't earn much. So asking all the people in this field to drop in their salaries, yoe and company.

Let's keep a note for us and others on how tester's are generally paid in today's industry.

The Jewish holidays have really slowed things down for me coupled with WFH. I am currently handling SPAC due diligence matters.

How do I ask for more work? and how do I let them know I am interested in other corporate areas as well( M&A)? Although I was brought in as a entry level junior, I actually have three years of experience, so for me the basic level due diligence kind of irks me.

I’m a 32 yo single male, 390k/yr annual compensation, live in Manhattan. Here is my post tax annual spending - is my discretionary too high?
- 40% to savings and investments
- 20% student loan payments
- 2% money home to parents
- 14% fixed expenses (eg rent, utilities, food, etc)
- 24% discretionary (eg trips, going out, etc)

Know this is totally dependent on personal circumstances, goals, desired lifestyle, etc but would be great to get feedback to better my habits. Thanks!

Any one following the narrative or risk story about how the next generation (us) is primarily buying the market through etfs / passive vehicles. Something like the majority of marginal dollars into the market is via passive and the risk it creates as discretionary liquidity disappears? If passive investors sell, or flows stop going into 401ks/TDFs, could trigger massive vol?

Does Bank of America do a Mega Back door 401K?

I don’t have an emergency fund. I’m young and I live with parents at home in london so I just don’t see the point in holding cash at a terrible rate when I can be getting a head start on investing. I plan on building one in due time but am I being too ignorant now?
