Luna cup user here. It takes some practice for you to get used to putting it in, but I love using mine. You may still need a backup liner. Changing in public bathroom is kind of awkward, but I've done it before. You take it out, dump, run out to the sink to covertly rinse, then go back in a stall to put it back in. Or if you're in a hurry, skip the sink part and use some toilet paper. You might find that you can go for a whole work day without having to take it out, it all depends on your flow.
I use both flex and diva cup.. flex sits parallel to your cervix while diva cup sits in your vagina, where a tampon goes.. once you get used to either, both can go ~12 hours (depends on your flow) without leaking at all.. I always change mine in the morning and then don't have to worry about it until the evening when I'm back at the hotel. They're both supposed to be better for your health than pads/ tampons too.
Regarding environmental concerns: they're much better than a pad and probably comparable if not better than a tampon with a plastic applicator (since you're not using as many)
The diva cup needs to be boiled after each cycle which is a little annoying but it's the most environmentally friendly. When I used either flex/ diva cup, combined with period underwear like thinx, it makes me nearly forget that I'm on my period
Second C 1 - I use the Diva cup. Once you get the hang of it, it’s pretty easy to use and a lot more convenient (I can wear a cup for much longer and it never leaked). It’s important to get the right cup though - check out youtube for comparison vids (precious stars pads has a ton!).
I’m a big fan of my moon cup. No need to carry around anything- I even put mine in a day or two before I’m going to get my period and it’s not uncomfortable. No leaks, no trash, no discretely bringing tampons to the bathroom. I just dump mine out in the toilet, put it back in, and move on
I’ve been using flex for the past 6 months, and it’s pretty convenient. Flex is a disposable option: a plastic ring with a sort of plastic bag collection part. I’ve only had it leak once and that’s on my heaviest flow day, at the 8 hour mark (should have checked on it earlier).
Also should note that I went on an overnight diving trip with Flex and it was super convenient. You can leave it in up to 12 hours
Is flex better than standard menstrual cup (like Diva)?
It is amazing to not have to throw away plastic anymore. I use the Lunnette - and I love it!!! I also bought washable mini pads from Luna pads on target.com in case of leaks. Ladies no more excuses!!! GET REUSABLE menstrual products. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0054SQ02K/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_JMtBAbC72CQ46
I'm interested in flex but am concerned about environmental impact of disposable plastic. Does the company address it in any way?
Diva cup user for a little over a year-- it takes adjustment, but I was determined to switch due to saving money and general environment impact. If you don't stick your fingers up your vagina a whole lot (read: I'm secretly a bit of a prude when it comes to knowing my own body) it can be tough to get the hang of.getting the damn thing out. Use pointer and middle finger together to remove it most easily. Upsides are that it is better for you (no yeast infections!) and you can leave it in as long as you want, based on your flow. Saves space while packing too. I pair it with washable pads (bought off Amazon) to catch blood from any day I accidentally misalign the cup. Hope that helps!
Entertaining side effect is that it seriously freaks out the significant other when I empty it if we are both in the bathroom. Guys can be SO squeemish about a bunch of period blood coming out of a cup. 😂
A4- I only ever had yeast infections while using the DivaCup. So experiences definitely vary but I've heard other yeast infections reports as well
