Your baby does not need to know how to read before kindergarten, but you should certainly be reading to them on a daily basis. If you would like to get a jump start though, learning the sounds of the alphabet is a great place to start, then doing really simple single syllable words, we used Bob books for that. Getting a montessori moveable alphabet could also be fun for building words together

Bob Books are a great first reader series. Practice reading and sight words over and over.
