Anyone unhappy with their recent lateral move? If so, why? Trying to make sure I’m considering the right things when making a lateral move.

One thing to keep in mind is that many associates will focus on the things they don’t like about their current firm when lateraling and ignore the things they like about their current firm. This can result in a switch that solves their complaints but creates a whole new set of ones. So I would include in your list of things to consider, what do you like about your current firm that you may miss/want to make sure the new firm has.

Yes, part of it is but there’s no guarantee that the people who are involved in your interview process are going to be the people you actually end up working with. So that’s something to look out for but not really something you can prevent from happening.

Yes. I left a great team and the team I’m on now is low key toxic.

So, I'm happy at my current job and have been there about 18 months. Our pay is probably 15% below market (AmLaw 100) but so are our billable requirements. Is there something shady about interviewing somewhere you're not totally committed to accepting an offer from?

Is it okay that I’ve been a slow junior as we’re hours away from closing? I’m trying to be proactive and available to cross things off the list but I’m SLOW: takes me long enough that they do it themselves (even though this wasn’t an issue earlier in the deal) and even on quick tasks or emails, they respond to it before I can click send. There’s also so much about closing that I don’t understand and I feel like I’m bothering the higher-ups on the team whenever I ask. *end anxiety post*

There’s always a Delaware entity in every financing deal so there’s always a need for a Delaware opinion. Why don’t more big firms open tiny offices there and just keep that stuff in-house rather than refer it one the shops there? No offense to RLF, Dorsey, Morris Nichols, etc.

the main partner I work for hasn’t been giving me consistent enough work (or type I want) so while I work for him still on some deals, I’ve had to go and get other work from other partners. He doesn’t regularly check in on what I’m working on. He keeps volunteering me for projects without checking if I have capacity and if he expected to know everything I’m working on… he would’ve thought I was just doing nothing the last 2 months. I don’t know how to address this workload balancing with him!

To all those in management, how do firms that haven’t instituted pay cuts/furloughs manage to do that? Is it because their clients are still paying the bills, because they are borrowing money, because partners just won’t see profit this coming year? Some combo?
