Yes with our last German Shepherd who was a huge nightmare and super high energy. We did a 12 or 14 week class, private lessons and I think it was like $1,200. The same company does a board and train for about $3,000 but we didn't want to do that. He was a completely different dog when he came home and retained all of the commands until the day he died. Best dog ever - just needed some structure.

The dog trainer trains you. They show you how to do things with the dog, but you need to constantly reinforce it, in order for it to stick. It’s worth it. There are also apps where you can do it over a video call, if you want to keep social distancing.
Yes I LOVE our dog trainer. We adopted a 4 m/o puppy who was so sweet, but was a complete menace with all of his energy. Already seeing major results about 10 weeks in. Overall, I think it may really depend on the breed whether or not you’ll need to seek out a private training.
We’re paying $1,000 for private lessons. In normal times, you can do puppy camp, which most places in my area are not offering right now (at least not in person.) would recommend asking for the trainers references and thoroughly researching trainers in your area, and figuring out which programs work best for you/your pup
Just binge watch Dog Whisperer
I did/do - She was $100 per hour when I booked through a training place. She went independent and her rate went down to $80 [Assume she was splitting the $100 with the owner of the place, so we both end up ahead now]
A lot of it is them training you - how to get the dogs attention, what works for your dog, etc. They’ll also explain to you what’s easy to train and not easy to train. Semi-private classes are $50-60 a class and I’d rather pay $20 more an hour for undivided attention.
I have a high energy, reactive dog in the city - I wanted him to be less reactive reactive when he saw other dogs. Not perfect but SO much better.
I still work with her btw - for tricks, and games and stuff to entertain my dog. it’s seriously the best hour of my week.
I would use YouTube, u need to spend many hours everyday training ur dog.

I would try one of the apps. My dog was so social she couldn’t really learn in the training class because she was so distracted by the other dogs. The apps also allow for more personalized training and are safe for social distancing.

Dogs are the easy part to train, humans, not so much. DM me with where you live I might be able to help depending on your location. At the very least I can give recommended national brands....here’s a hint, it’s not petsmart/petco.
Yes! We have a German Shepherd and it was very helpful to set the foundation. I highly recommend some form of puppy training. Pet smart offers pretty affordable puppy classes.
$100 / hr is standard for private training. Expect to put in the work outside of training also, at least 30 min per day - the dog and you both need reinforcement.
