Build your own PC. The value is much higher than buying an Apple. I built my own and it's more powerful than a Mac at the same price point.
Best setup is a pc. But here’s some info comparing different models of Mac and pc. https://www.schoolofmotion.com/blog/mac-vs-pc-motion-design-buy/
the best answer is yes, build a pc. but that’s quite unhelpful if you’re looking for more money.
i think you’ll be fine learning c4d with your current laptop, however id try to avoid rendering scenes with a lot of objects/textures/subdivisions. keep an eye on your render settings and try to not make anything too large unless it’s for client work.
once your render times are into the half hr/hour marks for your projects, you should probably then start considering an upgrade.
Thank you so much! This is super helpful.

Or the PC route.

You can get them all built for you, but you could save £500 by doing it yourself..
Go with a Mac. The build is better and the experience is a joy.
Basically Im trying to figure out what’s the best set up for someone looking to barely scratch the surface of 3D rendering with Cinema 4D so I can pay off this laptop (jk) so I can get more freelance work
Thank you all for the information! Is there someone or somewhere I can get consultation on PC building? I’m worried about breaking these expensive parts or getting the wrong thing.
Plenty out there on the tube.. I’m looking to build a PC for C4D etc but I am also tempted by the old 2009 Mac Pro’s and some DIY.

I went from a 100% Mac based designer to moving into photorealistic 3D modeling and rendering using a PC.
As others are saying, bite the bullet and purchase a PC and one with a good graphics card so you can use Octane or Redshift.
I was trying to get my hands on a GTX3080 all summer with no luck so I ended up purchasing a Ryzen with a GTX 3080 from CyberPower PC. Not the most beautiful chassis but it’s made my 3D work improve by leaps and bounds. Completely worth the investment.
