I’m a new senior manager in tax. Just got promoted this year. How do I know that I’m able to get to partner vs the firm seeing me as a sm only? What can I do to differentiate and also how do I prevent being overworked? I’m scared I would say I’m interested in partner, but then the firm seeing me as a workhorse and not promoting me. I feel like I want to spend my first year becoming more tax technical and building up my management skills. Then consider asking my coach about partner potential.

For those that have a full time job and a side startup. How do you manage doing both? I’m in pre-seed stages (<10 employees), and I’ve tried doing separate hours for one and the other. But that is causing slow response times to clients, and causing issues for burnout of the team. I’ve been told separate hours is the best way to make sure that you don’t get slapped with co-working, but is there effective strategies to make startup life more livable? 😩😫

I joined KPMG a while ago from federal consulting. Federal consulting had super good work life balance but I’ve been working at KPMG strategy for a while now. The hours are wild, my managers expect perfection, and I feel like it’s all meaningless. Does anyone else feel like this, how have you dealt with it, and is it like this once you go into industry?
