Is it true that most firms allow summer analysts who get an offer/incoming FT analysts to defer their offer for a year or so?

Does anyone here do really well in presentations or formal public speaking (even impromptu) but fall flat in small tall? I swear I would be calm while being interrogated in a congressional hearing but put me in a 1:1 or other minor conversation and I bomb almost every time.
