I once volunteered to be laid off. The department needed to cut 10% of employees . I was planning to leave anyway and they were offering 6 months salary + relocation + some other benefits as severance. Wasn’t going to be let go but raised my hand and they let me take it. Someone else got to keep their job and I got paid to quit basically.
Interesting. Thanks for offering your perspective. I am hoping for this 🙏, tho won't get nearly the package
Big holding companies are generally not kind and give crappy severance. It depends on why they are cutting. If your discipline is not on the bubble and you raise your hand they may keep you anyway and box you into quitting down the road. Tread carefully.
Thx, helpful.
Laid off when a client went bankrupt. I got a few weeks of severance as I’d been there for several years, but that was it. I also live in a smaller market so my situation is different. The agency had been struggling for a bit as it was in the middle of the recession. We’d staffed up to take on more work, but the big client went from 8 million for four and a bunch of people quit or got let go. We had also to take a furloughed day (extended a holiday weekend) to save a few more jobs.
Then the client went from 4 to 0 the next year and more people got let go (waves). Struggles continued, more people were let go afterwards
Check the state laws.
With a voluntary lay-off, make sure you can still qualify for unemployment benefits
You were voluntarily laid off?
