Anyone WFH with a 4mo old? My baby will be 4.5mo old when I’m back to work from maternity leave and I want to know how that’s going with everyone! This is our first child and we do not want to send her to daycare with everything going on :( If you can share your experiences, I’d really appreciate it!!

Have you considered taking a few months of unpaid leave at this time? My baby is 5 months old and thats what I am doing right now.

We have a 3yo. I think you will be fine before they start crawling. Once they walk they need all the attention they can get. I got luck that my mother was visiting when the virus hit so she stayed with us and is looking after him during the day. No clue how we would have managed it otherwise.

I was on mat leave until March. 1 wk back in the office and bam! Lock down. My baby is 5 months old now. I’m fucking gross. I’m always tired. I drink after work instead of exercise. My husband and I literally hand her off between conf calls. I quit breastfeeding bec I was losing my mind at 4 months. Do your best. You’re the best mom for your kiddo. Hire help if you can afford it, but so far everyone has understood crying or bottles or bouncing baby during meetings. We’re going to try to get into daycare in June at some point, but still weary of the world. Good luck!

Following. 2 mo old over here.

Get a nanny, incredibly challenging to work from home with a child that age. Our son went to daycare after 6 months until 14 months. We’ve had a nanny watch him since the day care closed as it was nearly impossible to accomplish anything as we were devoting 50% attention to baby and 50% attention to work.

Mine is 3 months. So thankful my wife only has about 2-3 hours of work a day to do for her job. No way I could manage my job and baby alone.

4 yo and 2 yo over here. Good luck!

Ugh. This is no joke. Have anxiety for the first time in a long time.

It’s been nuts with an active 6 month old. Luckily, my wife’s job has been slow and she’s been amazing

I have a 10 month old and it’s impossible. He can only self entertain for like 10 minutes at a time. We’re lucky he’s still taking two naps but I don’t think it’s possible to work from home with a baby. Must husband and I split days so I have the kids until 11-12 and he goes to work early and then takes over. So we work half days and only have short windows where we can take calls. I would hire a nanny if you’re too nervous for daycare.

My 6 mo just switched to a new daycare bc the old place (we started at 4mo) had NO transparency. she was coming out with dirty face, dried up tears, red marks, frequent blow outs etc that the teachers/admins kept brushing off. New place offers 24/7 camera access and provide lots of updates throughout the day. The teachers seem to be doing the best they can. But after the first week I noticed my baby was extremely aggressive, vocal, irritable, &can't nap. Should I be worried about the new place?

Indexed Universal Life Insurance (IUL) - Anyone have one of these ? Never heard of this until the other day when a financial planner mentioned it. He said it’s a better vehicle than 401K. I took what he said with a grain of salt because he was trying to acquire customers, but I haven’t heard anyone talk about it here. At a quick glance it seems pretty solid. Anyone have experience ? Pros/Cons ? Something to add on including the standard 401K, Roth, HSA, etc ?

I know this topic does not get talked about much but will eventually impact almost all of us so here goes. I am thinking of retiring (early) and would love recommendations for countries that I can retire to that. Primary factors would be cost if living, safety, warm climate, good health care system, (preferably) close to the US - not a requirement, stable government and laws, diversity in landscape (beach, rivers, mountains). Definitely not super rich so thinking of 5k a month in expenses.

Thoughts on joining a boutique consulting firm during this economy? Is it typically viewed as safer or riskier than bigger firms? Sorry if this is a dumb question. I know many of the bigger firms had layoffs but I imagine they have much more in the pipeline/budget/resources whereas boutique firms may or may not have had layoffs (is there a reputable source about this online?) but have fewer of the other items.
