Good move if you stay engaged to maintain your skill. But if you don’t, you’ll come back in a begging position.
If you do this you’ll have to hone and sharpen that skill the whole time you are independent. Publishing a blog (medium) about your trade is a good way to force you to keep current and know that trade intimately. The other side effect of this is you are usually able to communicate your craft clearly - making elevator pitches a breeze
Industry hire for me SME experience. Considered going independent, but feedback from those who had gone independent was first year or was brutal with a lot of time spent on networking and sales. Not my strengths and was not ready to take a 60% cut for the first year... so I chose to stay within the framework and round out my weaker spaces in to perhaps have a smoother transition for the future if I do want to be independent. Good luck!
Thanks guys for the feedback
