Anyone who's so is also in consulting or making good money? What do you do after you both max 18k in 401k and are not eligible for a Roth due to income limit? Only thing I've heard of is backdoor Roth

Get a HDHP and max out your HSA - works the same as a 401k

Agree on the HSA. Often overlooked. I invest mine aggressively and plan to use this in retirement to cover healthcare costs. Also, tax managed accounts.

How about maxing out IRA? Can someone share more about backdoor Roth?

Backdoor Roth then taxable vanguard account

Pay off consumer debt, pay off student loans, pay off your house or invest in real estate.

Gold bullion and I bury it in my back yard under the oak tree.... dammit now you know!!!

A house. But... double check the roth limits. I was surprised how hight they were

Agree with M3 - can someone post thoughts on a back door?

We are DINKs in consulting. We fully max out or 401k, HSA, IRA, and invest in 4 additional accounts. We aren’t sure if we will have kids, so we put the minimum amount in a 529 that gets us a tax break (can use ourselves or for our nieces/nephews if we don’t have kids). I realize this is going to sound bad, but we can hardly invest fast enough. We’ve had to put an auto invest feature on and then when we notice the market slightly down or when we get bonuses, we stick a little extra into our accounts.

DINK = Dual Income, No Kids for those that didn’t google quick enough

what’s the benefit of maxing an HSA?

The HSA is put in before tax. So that money is not double taxed. The HSA account specifically is not “use it or lose it”, so I get to keep that account growing until I need to have medical expenses. Need medicine? Use your HSA. Need a surgery, use your HSA. Lots of great options
