Anyone with the ABV or other valuation credentials? I’m interested to see how many actually use valuation skills on their forensic engagements and if getting a credential is worth it.

i do valuations for about 60% of my billables. very useful for divorces and, if your office has a tax dept, gift tax purposes. i have a CVA.

like

Is there an industry preference between the CVA and ABV?

I don’t have any valuation credentials but had to pick up quite a bit of the same knowledge/skills on the job. I’d say 40-60% of my work involves valuation so I’ve been considering getting certified one way or another.

Have I just had bad luck with the companies I've been at or is it like this everywhere? I've had 7 managers in my 4 years of experience, 3 in one year at my first position (which is why I left) and now 4 at the 2nd company in 3 years. There has been a mix of people leaving and people getting fired but the instability feels extreme.

For those who have obtained the CFF certification:
I was asked to put together a working plan to obtain my CFF credential. I’m aware of the 2 certificate program (Core and Specialized) through the AICPA that will lead to the CFF. Does anyone have experience in how long it would take to complete the certificates and if there are other necessary or helpful study materials that would be useful? For background, I’m 6 months into working at this firm and have touched a variety of cases.

I was wondering if the review course “CPE Self Study Course” for the CFF was enough preparation to study and pass the CFF exam. The CFE review course was enough and like if you get a question wrong it explains it well so that when it comes up in a different way in the real exam you can still get it. But when I saw the outline for the CFF material and there seems to be a lot of topics so I was wondering if the review course was sufficient considering this exam is also multiple choice. Thanks!
