To people saying it’s under assurance - it’s not audit. It’s technically under BAS, or business advisory services. Note that you can be mapped to any service line however. My friend is in financial analytics and he is mapped to tax but has never touched tax related work in his life.
They get paid more than tax or assurance employees, but less than deals.
It's good you'll like it join us
financial markets is primarily focused on valuations, while cmaas is broader accounting advisory. FM can be valuation as a consulting service but it can also be as an audit support service, etc. the same people in FM can be found wearing multiple hats in this way. it’s a very confusingly xLoS practice too. some FM teams are even mapped to tax for weird arbitrary headcount reasons.

In terms of what they do & clients served. Cmaas is very broad and covers all industries
CMAAS pays more.

FM is not under deals or advisory for one. They also have completely different groups within FM
It sits under assurance. But the type of work done in the group is a mix of valuation, accounting advisory, consulting and audit support work.
I talked to a recruiter about FM - Real estate specifically I think. After doing my research I got really turned off that it was under assurance and that 40% of the job would be audit support (don’t remember the exact percentage she told me but remember it being pretty high)
Wow, that sounds immensely boring...
FM - valuation advice (operational/deal) for accountants/finance
CMAAS - accounting advice, especially around big deals (eg IPO, carve out, etc)
So is it recommended to try to work in Financial Markets then? How are the hours and overall work culture like? Also, can someone explain what the valuation means?
