Thoughts on all of the layoffs happening?
2021 is going to be a delight 😳
Recently Store Managers have been offering me jobs from different locations but same company in my town. The company is T-Mobile. It’s going to be my first job. I have a couple questions for any former/current employees. Is it better to work for T-Mobile, metro by T-Mobile, or a third party T-Mobile? Any difference in benefits or wage? Thanks

the salary part depends a bit on the network. the don’t talk as much as you’d think.
My directive from management is I can talk to candidates who apply from the network but we can’t actively seek them out (poaching).
I did. It was no problem at the time but it was awkward when they HR depts communicated with each other and let my CD know before I had a chance to tell him.
They know how much you make so negotiations are hard.
I read that with IPG you can transfer to another IPG agency after one year. Not sure of the process though
Ipg you can apply and interview without people from your company knowing. They notify HR only after you’ve accepted an offer. Also strict no poaching policy so you must apply before they can talk to you.
Based on experience the agencies in a network dont really talk and the holding company talks to them even less as it relates to people. Its largly a myth that all companies in the network have access to your info, file, compensation, etc. They are separate companies and as such frequntly competitors, none of them would openly share this information.
Designer 1: Are you speaking from experience? I'm in this situation (or about to be) with IPG and the handbook paints a very different picture of who needs to know and when.
Wondering if it's more informal than the handbook states?
Publicis is a little tricky. HR departments have to tell each other and they’re allowed to discuss salary.
Huge variance, having been on both a Publicis & WPP receiving end. I find much less limiting in Publicis (WPP wanted me to resign before I could apply, but that was in 2008).
Sc1 yes that’s what I was told last year by the recruiter at the other ipg agency I was interviewing with
I tried to talk to another agency in my network and the head of production asked HR to set up the interview. Their HR immediately let me know they wouldn’t set up anything more than a very informal and off the record conversation unless they were sure I was a shoo-in because it gets so touchy.
Depends... WPP, our holding, requires all 200k+ funnel through them for approval. They will most likely look and there’s also a written group policy of only allowing 10% increases between entities. But have honestly never heard of anyone getting tangled in this web. I guess, the more senior - the more likely, but just play hard ball as they could see a risk of you leaving them altogether...
My understanding has been that with IPG they have to notify your existing agency BEFORE they make you an offer. So just be prepared to be sharing the news with your current agency before you've accepted the new job.
Not sure why what I make today is germane to what I’d get paid in a new role. If I apply to be the front desk person, you’re not going to pay me more because I was an SD in my prior role, right?
I don’t disclose as a rule, but one time when my salary was known, I dismissed it as completely irrelevant. Pay me what the new job is worth for a top-quality person who will deliver outstanding results, or GTFO. That’s true in network, out of network, ANYWHERE.
My former boss has been at 3-4 agencies over the course of her career all within Omnicom, called it "the owned experience". Negotiated all of the moves on her own I think (no formal process).
I can confirm at Omnicom everything is shared - salary etc. HR do talk to each other when a candidate has made the approach. Negotiations on salary are really hampered by it - but not impossible, depending on the financial situation at the holding company at the time.
