An incident response-related certification can help you stand out among job candidates. This can be either a general security certification such as CISSP, CISM or Security+. A certification pertaining to an adjacent professional space such as the Certified Information Systems Auditor or Certified Ethical Hacker; or even technology-specific or vendor-specific certifications like Cisco's Cisco Certified Network Associate or Cisco Certified Internetwork Expert -- particularly the security track.
Thanks D2, I will definitely take a further look into his course. I actually settled and bought the Blue Team Level 1 course and exam. I really recommend anyone looking into DFIR to check it out.
GCFE or GCFA helps. Any SANS cert really. IR is fast paced forensics so really any forensics cert will get your foot in the door.
SANS is expensive. They have some TA positions you can apply for that drastically reduce the course cost and still let you take the course.
OSCP is one I’ve heard to look into
I know this is more for offensive testing. Pretty rigorous exam I’ve heard
If you think you know your artifacts apply. Everyone is desperate for help.
It’s not all about certs - I’m always keen to see folks do other learning. Plenty of free resources out there. CTFs are a great way to learn and demonstrate learning. Lean heavily on any tech background you already have and think about / demonstrate how that can be secured. I started in IR 8+ years ago from a network engineering and ICS background
