I am the only social worker in a 56 bed SNF. I do like the work, but it seems every job that is not nursing has been poured into my job. Including if someone’s glasses or hearing aids are broken (I am expected to repair or drop everything to run to the doctor’s office for repair), and shipping lost items to discharged patients. My predecessor worked from 8am-8pm with no lunch to get it done. So I would definitely ask very carefully about expected duties.

I believe my unit would be 33 for SNF, and then some LTC responsibilities
Hmm. This made me think. I used to work at an elderly care facility. I have to say I did enjoy most part of it. But I had to leave for a higher paying company. But if I found a decent paying snf, I would probably consider it.

Yes… I’d like somewhere with longevity and I think most people I’ve spoken to do end up leaving the snf/LTC field. I’ve been offered two positions one in outpatient oncology and one in snf/LTC and i don’t know what’s going to fit me best
I work at a SNF/LTC right now at a 120 bed facility. I’ve worked acute care previously and enjoy this more. No day looks the same, it depends on the facility and team around you though. You do get a lot of different responsibilities but I find it to be manageable with good organization. I don’t work more than 40 hours a week.
I did for almost 10 years. It was the paperwork esp MDS (for Medicare) that burnt me out. I left for hospice which has no paperwork other than progress notes. And I was able to be mobile going to many facilities and felt more independent. So I recommend it highly.

Wow which hospice are you working for? I left my hospice job because of all the paperwork, I’d be up writing notes past 9pm. But good for you!! Are you recommending hospice highly or SNF?
