“I got it on sale”

Yup 👍🏼

I love that you did this for them! For us it’s the public face vs the private face. To you they will say you spent too much. To their friends they will brag about what you provided them. Keep doing it and soldier box. Keep in mind they have to rebuke you culturally, but ensure they have to accept it. Just because they say they don’t like it doesn’t actually mean that.

like

Yup. All. The. Damn. Time. So I lie about it now, idk if it helps or hurts.

like

Haha I lie too.. but I have a feeling they know and it just makes it easier for them to outwardly accept

It’s probs out of love but wish they didnt focus on the price too much!

I think asian parents are generally bad at praising their kids (old school ones - didn’t mean to generalize in a bad sense)

like

why are all asian parents the same? that said, the switch flipped in my mom, once she got to a place where she felt like my siblings and I all had good jobs. now she gleefully tells us what she wants for christmas (but of course still reasonably priced).

like

Yeahhh my parents definitely changed for the better once me and my brothers were all at stable points in our career. Now they’re starting to adopt a less frugal mindset as they’ll try out things we introduce/give to them and they realize that quality is worth paying for.

My parents do this as a part of their "thank you" ritual too. It goes: why did you buy this? Too expensive. I don't need this, it's too extravagant... It does work really well and I like it. Thank you! But wow it's expensive". I figure it's a part of showing humility and also them being frugal. But they end up loving the gift and feel adored at the end of the day. But what you're looking for - - I use a few things - - 1) I got this at a discount! 2) you DESERVE this upgrade! I Know you can live without this, but I think you work hard and deserve this upgrade. 3) don't worry about the price! I can't return this anyway! 4) this thing is never on sale so I might as well buy it now so you can use it longer! 5) do you know how much time you're going to safe with this?! This is going make your pains/waiting/other ailment go away!

Yeah, but it’s just ritual

“Why did you spend so much money” is just Asian for “thank you dear, we appreciate you”

Yeah I think this is a lot of Asian Parents in general... It was parent's day in Korea recently and my mom and dad would not accept gifts.

like

I just tell them I used my gift cards from the company to purchase the gift. They feel like it’s not real money if i used a gift card. Lol.

like

Good for u. He prob just doesn’t want you to spend money on them. I bet you he’s happy that you care about him

I currently work a temporary position with the federal gov. My husband and I have been thinking about starting a family soon. I’m concerned maternity leave may not be on the table due to the “time limited appointment”. The confusion is people’s time limited appointments keep getting extended and some have been there for 1+ year. I’m concerned about the scenario where we get pregnant and then my appointment ends… I’m also nervous about how job hopping will look because I just started in June.

Should I have a second child? I met my husband later in life at 37 yo. We had our first when I was 39. I thought I was good with just one as I was never someone who really wanted kids but I know my husband would love to have another and now that I have one I think about her having a sibling. I’ll be 41 in March so we need to start now. I love the ease and flexibility of one child and she’s been such good baby. I’m worried that if we have another I’ll regret it. I’m also about to start a new job.

I am thinking about having another baby. I have a 2 and a half year old boy. I am also going to be 41 next month. I had a really rough pregnancy the last time around and I’ll be 41 next month. Any mothers that had their kids after 40 with any advice?

What would you choose? MBB (Digital practice) or Amazon PMT? Background: T15 MBA student, 7YoE as Mech engineer, long term goal is to climb ladder in Tech, married and have a baby Situation: I have a MBB and Amazon PMT offer for summer internship that I need to choose. MBB comes with FT offer, Amazon PMT will most likely result in return offer. If I go with MBB, I plan to exit to big Tech in 2-3 years. Y1 TC for both will be quite similar (around 230k). Hi 🙋🏼‍♀️ Accenture moms. Re healthcare benefits: did you select HDHP or PPO plan and why? I’ve been on the HDHP plan for the last few years, which has worked well as I almost never see a doctor, but we’re planning to get pregnant next year and I’m reevaluating my options. How many prenatal apts should I expect? Is PPO better for this? Anything you wish you had known about being pregnant with ACN health benefits?

My 22 month old son has been extremely violent recently, mostly towards his father. He bites, scratches and hits my husband a lot, often unwarranted, and once in a while, does the same to me. He is also very aggressively shaking his head back and forth when he doesn’t want to eat anymore and swipes food away that he doesn’t want. It’s pretty monstrous. Not sure if this is normal for his age or if we should start looking at behavioral therapists.

We are at 33 weeks and baby is measuring on the smaller side (17th percentile overall). The stomach is measuring at 8th percentile and wife’s fluids are “on the lower side of normal”, both of which are a bit concerning. The baby is also breached, which may be causing inaccurate measurements. Saw the high risk doctor today who wants to do weekly growth monitoring. Anyone experience something similar? Would appreciate any insights!
