It definitely is, all the responses are about excel
At one point I used it for a dirt simple analysis on where I should go for vacation. Pulled up a list of ~30 Marriott resort properties and had columns for points cost, round trip flight cost, and hotel rating. Did a shaded red/green color coding across the criteria and funneled the list down to three properties which were dark green across the board.
Took maybe an hour of mostly data collection and managed to get an economical and super enjoyable vacation
In the Korean Army we didn’t have internet (only intranet). Some Korean programmers made Tetris on Excel out of sheer boredom.

I wouldn't really call it "cool" per se, but in my 20s I built a very detailed multivariate retirement projection spreadsheet.
If memory serves, I modeled geo pay differential, inflation, investment growth rate, comp growth rate, social security, pension projection, HSA, family expenses, tax rates, and a few other data points I'm probably forgetting.
I had it set up so I would just update a few data points each month (e.g. family expenses, comp, investment rate, and a few others) on the first tab and it would spit out retirement scenarios based on year of retirement.
Alas, this was before the days of OneDrive and stuff, so it was lost when that computer but the dust and I never rebuilt the spreadsheet.
And here I am, still trying to figure out how to freeze panes without fcking up the whole sheet 🤷🏻♀️

I did an =FV calculation that told me I’d be working till I was 70, or need to start contributing 30% to retire by 60.

I made it to not work for whole 30 mins as I had 30+ workbooks opened at a time and it didn’t save my ongoing work so I had to sit for another 6 hrs to recreate it.. just me and my excel stories!
Close it and use a better data processing tool
There is cool excel art if you Google it. Some animated though macros.
With excel and python. I used Python to read a certain type of Outlook email that was coming in about 100 times a day that carried excel data always in the same format. The script read the read, created a compiled report, Deleted the email and moved excel file to its final destination for record keeping. Eliminated ~1 hr a day of mindless document moving for 4 people + generated insight (summary doc) that we never had
