Anything more awkward than having to send “Status??” emails to local counsel as an associate? For context, local counsel is a partner at another biglaw firm and clearly has more expertise in the area.

Nah not awkward as all. In a sense you're their client and it's their job to keep you happy. They know the drill

Be very polite and do not treat them like idiots - it will go a long way. See if there is an associate on the chain. Try calling them; maybe your status question does not make sense in their process or at that point.

We had a junior lead counsel a couple of years ago persistently ask when an entity would be incorporated because that was for a mysterious reason on their list (its purpose needed to be amended) until our junior gave up and confirmed it was.

Mileage expense for airport drop off? I live about 65 miles from the airport in a rural area without Uber or Lyft. There are a few local services that do airport runs, but they book up in advance. My wife and I primarily work from so we only have 1 car. For a recent trip the car service was only available for the return airport transfer so my wife dropped me off at the airport. I’m planning to expense the round trip mileage - it would still be cheaper than the ride service. Thoughts?

I’m pretty sure some of the mids dislike my commitment to setting boundaries. I really try and stick to a 1900 hr pace (we have 1-800 minimum) unless it’s trial, but this means I actually say no all the time if it’s going to put my week over 45 hours. My performance reviews are great and no one’s mentioned it, but how long can I realistically last in big law before it becomes an issue? I’m a 2nd year, just trying to get to year 4 when my loans are paid off doing the absolute bare minimum.

Mid-levels, to what extent do seniors/partners still make stylistic changes to your drafts? The substance is right, but a lot of times things get reworded. I haven’t had any complaints about my drafting, so curious to know whether this is still typical at the mid-level stage.

I sent from my work email a follow-up email to two people at another firm who I interviewed with. I sent from my iPhone and for some reason iPhone auto populated my work email instead of personal (even though I had previously only used personal to communicate with the other firm). I immediately realized the mistake (after double checking the sent box of personal and then the sent box of work email), and “recalled” and double deleted the message in outlook. Will employer likely see the email?

Advice on how to navigate a personality? I’m a junior. There’s a counsel I’m working with, and… the vibes are off. They haven’t asked for anything unreasonable and have been pretty kind to me. But I’ve observed them scolding a mid and just bombarding people with calls. I noticed that other people on my team tiptoe around this person and the tone of communications seem a lot more formal. This makes me uncomfortable as all of my deal teams have been really positive and great to work with.
