They’re going to cut staff first. They will not want to cut the billers as long as there is work for them to do.

^this. Not everyone lost jobs in 2008. Be the best, most positive, versatile, on-the-ball associate you can be!

Keep clients and partners happy. Be grateful for what the firm has done to accommodate people during the crisis, keep communication lines open, Bill Bill bill like you’ve never billed before. Start thinking like your boss. When times are tight, firms separate the men from the boys (or the women from the girls... or whatever you want to call it. You get my point)

2nd year thinking about making a move into a compliance role at a large public company. Concerned about two things: 1) is it too early to go in house given that I’m 3 months away from 3rd year and 2) is compliance a dead end within in house roles?

A reminder to those who are stressed about your billable hours that your value is more than your pure productivity. To those stressed about relationships, relationships are hard even for non-lawyers, but you are absolutely worthy of love. It is an important reminder for all of us that you are worthy and you are valuable. Keep fighting!

Hi everyone. I’m new here but I think I’ll get a lot of really good feedback. I work in government procurement. I worked remote during the pandemic and now my manager cannot see his way to letting us work from home. Our department is the only one in the organization that is in the office all the time. It is really hurting morale and, personally, making me look for something different. What is everyone’s experience with old school management? Thank you!

Would you say summaries are as effective for self help books like "the subtle art of giving a fk" and other similar books? I feel the books themselves ramble on too much on a side story only to tell a point that could be summed up in a couple sentences.
Or am I just not getting good book recommendations for growth/development on mental well being and productivity

You know the Pandemic life is getting “real” when your senior dog runs to you and cries. When you follow her you see her brother aka the cat is laying in the only sun patch. True story! I don’t have “non-furry” kids but I think I experienced a teeny part of it just now. This is them attempting to get along. 🤣🦊🐈

Hi Everyone! Between corona and snowstorms, “real life” is seeming as far off as anything else. Curious to hear what some people are doing to keep their employees engaged? Zoom happy hours are dead.. we did a few “virtual contests” (i.e., everyone submitted a pic of themselves dressed up for Halloween, allowing former years as entries, and made a slide show for voting the winner), but I’d like to go a little bigger. Suggestions??

The amount of people, even attorneys, who can't separate out the policy merits of abortion from the issue of whether it is a constitutional right is disappointing. I consider myself pro-choice ---I believe states should allow it, that the federal government can pass a statute to guarantee it, and that FDA statutes and regulations will preempt any state trying to ban chemical abortions through FDA approved drugs. Dobbs at its core is a case about the Due Process Clause, not the policy of abortion

Whoever said employers don’t care about grades and transcripts after your first job was a liar. Every lateral position that I’ve applied to as a 3rd year has requested transcripts. Why do we lie and tell grads that employers don’t check transcripts when they do. My coworker, a 5th yr, had to submit his transcripts also to lateral job. Side note - it speaks volume when multiple associates are trying to lateral at the same time
