Applied to a paid media specialist position, well qualified. Was invited for a second round interview but before I could attend they reached out to me telling me they had closed the position because their candidate pool collapsed (they all accepted jobs and bowed out). Now they’re telling me I’ll have to re-apply when they re-open the position in the “near future.” Is this pretty much a lost cause? If I was the only candidate left and they didn’t pick me, what would be the point of re-applying?

They did say I was a strong candidate but I’m in the final stages of other interviews so it looks like they’re going to lose me too.

They don’t deserve you it seems

Coming from a long career in recruiting, that makes no sense. Candidate pools collapse, but it doesn’t typically eliminate the need to fill the role. Rather, you have to keep searching. Definitely scratching my head at this one!

Sounds like they made up a dumb excuse to pause on hiring for that role (as you were a part of that “pool”), but something else may be at play internally. Don’t rest your hopes on them and move on.

I’m new to the job hunting scene in the US.

When you’re a junior/mid level designer, are recruiters supposed to be thought of as gods/lifelines?

Are you supposed to feel lucky when they reach out to you and are you supposed to kiss their ass as much as possible or are you supposed to think of them as your friends and be honest about your views on things like salary and such?

Will I be equally fine not relying on getting a job through a recruiter at my stage??

So…..my director has been in the position for a little over a year. We’ve been working our tails off and last quarter were informed of no bonuses. I understand that business is down and need to save money. The straw for us was a company holiday party. They completely forgot to have one and now taking us to a bar for drinks and appetizers. Someone asked if that includes a dinner and they said no. The optics is just so bad. Any advice? Really rethinking my current situation and need to reevaluate.

They keep posting new jobs I qualify for in different subsidiaries, should I continue to apply to increase my chances, or is that wrong bc I’m already started the interview process with one position?

I have trouble trusting people. I feel like a jerk as I actually do think my bosses actually do have their best intentions for me. They never flip out and always help guide me to a solution. I know this is all a paycheck and a job. People have their own agendas, but maybe I got lucky finally after having horrendous bosses for years. But, it’s still hard to believe that. IDK why and it’s driving me crazy.

I’ve been working in my current company for 1.5 years and since my first few months I felt it wasn’t working. I was too aftaid to jump ship at that time as I just finished my MBA and it was my dream to get back to this industry. Fast forward, I was transferred into a new role in Q1 this year and have been stuck with a terrible manager & I just don’t feel inspired or motivated to do well. Did a few interviews but but they didnt work out. Now I am thinking to quit without a backup plan. Thoughts?

Anyone know of any good open in-house opps in D/FW?

I’m new in a dual media relations/digital role. I found myself surprised to see that the digital team actually has account editing video/designing graphics. Is this normal? Before I was at a larger agency where creative would be called in to do this work. We have a creative team at this new agency so I’m not sure why they aren’t called to support. It seems a bit unprofessional as these executives are clearly not ‘pros’ in this area of designing/editing.

Lately, a lot of recruiters have been reaching out. I'm mostly happy in my role and w/my company (no longer w/Edelman), but one job caught my eye with a huge salary and title bump at a comparable company, culture and work wise. Interviews are going well - I'm torn about leaving - things are good now but some extra $$ for what seems like a similar experience seems like a no-brainer. Yet, I feel sad about potentially leaving my current company. Anyone have a similar experience? What happened?

Feel like I was lied to when interviewing at my current agency. I was very honest how important work life balance is to me due to health issues. I’m only two months in & working 55-60 hours a week, having to sign it at 10pm for reports. Every account seems to be like this. How much of a red flag is it if I already start looking for new jobs? I really wanted to make it work, but so can’t do this. I’m in Pharma PR, fwiw.
