🐠: Are AlixPartners, Alvarez & Marsal, and FTI considered T2 alongside OW/ATK/LEK?

FTI isn’t close. They pay low and even in restructuring, they lag far behind alix and A&M, I’d go to a big 4 before FTI Alix is T2, A&M is T2 for restructuring and PEPI, (or just call it T1, there’s nowhere you’d rather be if you’re RX) the other groups are fine but more of an Accenture/big4 level

I can confirm we get paid a lot less than AP and A&M, at least at the MBA level. I would not recommend recruiting here if you can get into A&M / AP / Big 4

BRG is better than FTI

Yes, do tell?! Keen to hear what I clearly can’t see...

Alix and A&M is equal to or greater than MBB in the area they play. Very well established in that market.

There is no formal or timed up or out. But non-performers don't last long.

I mostly agree with what A1 said above, but I’ll add that we pay much better than big 4 and maybe those others listed above as well. Similar to mbb comp.

I used to believe FTI was same tier as AP and A&M but am confident it isn’t. Comp is way, way lower and stock performance has been lagging hard compared to other public firms. Not saying that I’m trying to jump ship ASAP but I’m definitely going to look around every now and then

My sense is FTI way below, A and M specialized, AlixP specialized but moving generalist... have heard interesting things re: heavy debt leverage for both on growth but looks like so far so good. Limited understanding is it’s a very different staffing / team model from traditional private strat consulting firms but my info may not be up to date.

Very different team model and org structure. No undergrad hires, no up or out. Our goal and resulting team structure is smaller, more senior teams filled with people with significant industry and consulting experience. Definitely not generalist, but we do cover almost every industry and functional area, albeit some are further along than others.

For ALixpartners, financial services industry is still slightly behind but a lot of investments are made in FS. In addition, it’s really easy to take up projects from different teams - management consulting folks can be on restructuring projects quite easily from my experience

FS and Healthcare / Life Sciences are our two least developed industry teams. However, I see a lot of momentum behind both.

Currently in audit, looking to do tax returns for friends and family on the side to make a little extra money. Two questions: 1) would the firm have a problem with this if it doesn’t interfere with my work? I assume no since the firm probably isn’t interested in filing my brother’s return (he is a union electrician). 2) I have no experience in tax (I don’t even do my own return), so is there a good software to use for this or what is the best way to learn how to do tax returns?
