At my agency, we have creative partners up to the ECD/CCO level. I'm a CD and my partner is a GCD. We aren't large enough for there to be a distinction or an added layer between CD and GCD, but as a CD, I'm managing business with 4 clients, with 3 of those clients each having 1 large account and 1 client having ~8 brands. Half of those brands are active and the other half are project based. Maybe your agency also does not really distinguish between these two levels because of size? I will say though that I almost never write the day to day stuff. I write lines for creative ideas when my partner and I participate, but my team does the day to day. In addition to reviewing and directing key pieces of work, I tend to do a lot of strategy stuff, like your CSO taps you for. I'm working in or reviewing a PPT at least half of my day, every day.

Of those, I actively lead the day-to-day creative on four accounts with creatives reporting to me. Sometimes I write when the workload gets too busy for my ACDs (all of them also work on agency accounts that I don’t touch). I function as the sole CD/copywriter on five other accounts, but the work is project based. One or two projects a year. I also regularly pitch in and write on a couple of the agency’s large accounts, as does every other writer in the creative department.

I feel like the lines are blurred in big shops too. Sounds like you are entrusted to do a ton. That to me is GCD level, even if it some other people with the same title don’t roll up their sleeves as much. I’m one of those people. I’m also a GCD but at a large shop, and I don’t do the creative work nearly as much as it sounds like you do.

I’ve worked in small boutique agencies where there were more GCDs than juniors, it’s just a way to keep people from leaving.

Greg- what is your honest opinion about the recent mandatory alignment for managers within 6 months of promotion? I am quite surprised this topic hasn’t been discussed enough on Fb.

So back in July I went out for a new position at my small company that was rapidly expanding (Account Manager). Was notified that I didn't get the full promotion but was told instead that I was still moving up and was going to be Customer Service/Account Manager Support. The new Account Manager had no customer service experience within our niche industry. I instead had to help help him with all customer service issues. I feel like I am being taken advantage of. ADVISE APPRECIATED.

Hi All, Promotion letters are out for C2 and C3A

Not really sure what board is proper for this. But has anyone had an experience where your boss required paperwork for a raise? I started my job as an account manager at a less than reasonable salary, but I was under the impression that I would be able to grow and would have help. A lot of work is dumped on me at one time and all the responsibility falls to me, it's often way to much work for one person. I tried to negotiate a raise with my boss and lead with the fact that I was moving to the area and the salary was not conducive to rent here. He cut me off after my first point and said he'd figure it out. I never got to tell him about my workload. Long story short he required a lease agreement for me to get this raise. It took quite a while to get one... had a few places fall through. My landlord is in the middle of moving so was only able to forward me a PDF of the document that was unsigned, until she has time to meet. Now my boss wants a signed lease with all my roommates signatures too. This is not part of the contract I signed that simply says "provide a lease agreement"... tips?

Does anyone know when we will receive promotion for July 2021 quarter?

Can anyone suggest if it's even possible to try to get promoted in 2 years? Just don't want to put in extra effort and getting disappointed later.
