Well since you have an educational background I would say the first step is to take any courses or certifications that you can to be better qualified.

Of course, people want to hire teachers. I was a preschool teacher for five years and I hated it. I just recently got into copywriting and chose that as my career. Now it took me a little time but really it wasn't my skill it was my mindset. So my first piece of advice DONT BE NEGATIVE! If you believe you can do the job then you will do the job. Simple

Former math teacher hear. Transitioned three times to a new career. Look into instructional design, curriculum development, or technical training career paths. Lots of tech companies hiring these folks.

Make a list of companies you'd like to work for and go for it.

Don't be scared to learn something new. It's ok to learn as you go as well. We aren't perfect.

Find someone who is where you would like to be and learn from them as much as possible. Then go execute exactly what they did.

Try to bridge the gap. While you're learning coding and whatnot, do your teaching certifications allow you to teach an intro engineering course at a high school level, for example? If not, it might be easier to get CE towards that end before trying to leave education entirely.

I did this recently! You just have to get relevant certs. I also freelanced a lot to build my portfolio and make me a more competitive candidate.

Edtech is huge and growing quickly, so a former teacher with some kind of tech background would make perfect sense as a new hire.

Hi all! For an experienced hire as a Human Capital Consultant at Deloitte, what should I expect the salary/sign-on bonus to be at a MCOL city? I have approx. 3.5 YOE (non-consulting), MBA and MS degree (non target school) and also SHRM certified (which is probably irrelevant for the role but thought I’d share anyways). Already did my research but the range is kind of all over the place for experienced hires so just want to have a ballpark. Thanks!

Would love some advice—I’ve spent the last 2 yrs in sr level role doing policy work I enjoy. early on I discovered I was srsly underpaid & had to fight to fix it. Then leadership changed & things were good, until recently they dangled a promotion only to tell me it wouldn’t come with a raise for at least 6 mons. Then a diff agency asked me to apply for a role that pays a lot more but the work sounds so boring. Do I follow the money or do I keep doing work I like while feeling undervalued?

I was contacted by an amazon recruiter for a position that they described as "leader of a business division (I.e. Hard-line business) They mentioned that I would have people reporting to me. From this I assume it could be a L7 PM. Any ideas if I am guessing right? I asked for the level but I got told that it is confidential. Any idea of the salary range? It seems to vary a lot for L7....

Currently live in NYC, got an industry offer with a 4% pay raise but new role will be in Princeton NJ. Better work life balance but I’m single in my late 20s. Bad move or good move?

Did I screw myself by being the first person to bring up salary figures with a startup? I tried to hold firm and make sure they said ballpark range first before I said if those align with my expectations, but she gave a vague “it depends on market, but I can give you a broad range from $45k-$90k for the role.” So I responded with $70k-$80k. Should I have asked for the highest range then of $80k-$90k? Worst case scenario, I don’t want it being revoked.

Picking a country to live and work in: my spouse is a Mexican citizen (with US green card) who works in Mexico City, and I'm a US citizen. We want to live together, but my spouse has great career opportunities in tech in MC, and finding a job in the US has been hard. I could likely get a job in MC, but I don't speak Spanish and my income would be much lower. How should we handle the decision of who moves where? We are both looking for tech jobs in the bay area, but we haven't had much success.
