Are any other juniors billing pretty little since the market correction?

When there is a significant slowdown, sometimes the seniors will hog the work because they want to make sure they have the hours they need to qualify for a bonus. Unfortunately, that means that juniors may not get the hours they need. Less of an issue at firms that don’t have a minimum hours threshold for bonus eligibility.

I’m a junior in litigation but is this actually a historical trend in the legal market where a 15 or 20% correction in the market results and less work? Obviously 2008 was disastrous but what about smaller downturns?

I’ve billed a lot less (was averaging 160-180 a month last year and up until February). Since then it’s been slower and the juniors in my firm have struggled massively with getting enough billable work.

Junior in capital markets. Very busy.

IPOs.

Yep

Junior in lev fin and busy as hell

junior corporate litigation associate billing low 200s and feel like I'm slacking with how much work I have

Same. Commercial lit. Several 200+ months in a row has me burnt out. Struggling to keep up with projects.

Wanted to highlight Prudential Financial’s hiring practices. They rescinded my offer once I attempted to negotiate the salary. The official reason given was that I didn’t “sound excited enough”.
They then admittedly gave the offer to someone who was less qualified. There were other red flags throughout the job offer process that the HR team should overall be ashamed of.

Does anyone have insight into current salary levels for VP roles at a larger agency (500+ employees)? I'm making the move from freelance and just got an offer for 165k, little to no bonuses. The job is in corporate, mostly purpose/ESG work. I know there are a couple threads on this, but with the current market, wondering if salaries have gone up at all. Thanks, in advance, for any feedback!

This might be inappropriate but how often are the rest of you having sex with your significant other or spouse? We have little kids and I work 75 hours a week so I am lucky to hook up twice a week and even that is tough to schedule. My wife takes it personally if I am not all over her so I try to make an effort even when I am dead tired. But honestly lately I have been dreaming of a sexless marriage and anything else that will take some of the pressure off me.

Hey all - first year associate here… I’ve met my hours requirement for this year (requirement is 1900 and am currently at around 2050 with billable hours - approx. 2160 with non billable admin hours) and I am just tired. Is it okay to just “disappear” during the holidays (thanksgiving week, week of Christmas) and let partners and senior associates know I am not available? At this point I don’t care about making more money - I just want to sleep, read a good trashy book, and cuddle with my dog.

If you don’t have 8 hours of billable time a day, do you leave as is or do you fill in the gap with non-billable work? While I am in the office, I don’t always get the billable amount since I don’t have enough work. Seems like a waste of time to enter non-billable time just to fill in the gap but I also don’t want them to think I am not there and slacking off.

What’s the norm?
