What is the most stressful aspect of your job...

I’m just around a year and half and I’m having a decent time. Not all of the work has been glamorous, but that’s just the nature of work itself. I have found ways to work within my team in the areas that I enjoy while still being able to contribute. That being said, there are times where the work is horrible and I feel like I’m ready to move on. I would make your feelings known to your supervisors and hope they respond positively and try to work with you on getting more involved and providing the support you need.
I gotta be honest, I love my job. I started out at Deloitte and within a few months was pretty miserable / worked into the ground. Since leaving an working for a boutique, it’s been a night and day shift. Better culture, hours, wlb, and I’d say most importantly I’m just really impressed and inspired with the people I work with and their knowledge in the field. I strongly believe that if you’re not getting what you’re looking for after a year at a firm, it may be time to rethink what you’re doing or make a switch entirely. It was the best thing I did for myself.
Haven’t met a single person in my start class who is happy
Seconding that- 2020 covid start, not thrilled with work
I think it’s industry wide. Tough environment to start a career in.
Pro
I'm not unhappy, if that counts. My team's pretty nice, it's not too much work, and the money's good. It's not fun like it would have been if we could travel and meet people but can't complain with everything going on in the world right now
Same 🥲
I feel this way at my company
IBM didn’t go a great job at this pre-covid, but I can’t even imagine what it’s like in a fully remote environment
I'm not happy at my job, but it's because I genuinely don't like the work. Eventually I would've come to the same conclusion, but because during COVID it has been all work and no play it took much less time for me to realize
Are you in my mind?
The signing bonuses also screw us I feel like, I have been passively looking but paying back an untaxed 10k is a huge deterrent
As someone who just left Deloitte and had to pay back her $10k signing bonus, can confirm it was ass.
I’m a year post grad and I too feel like the firm hasn’t helped me develop any new skills. I’m not even using my degree on my current project. I recognize there’s a level of self learning required, but I thought when I accepted the offer that senior staff would be teaching me new skills in my degree. That could be, and probably is, a fault of my own for not taking better control of my career. Curious to know how you’ll start the conversation to either make your situation better or exit the firm!
When you are networking, focus on finding a manager or senior manager you get along with really well, and focus on building a relationship with that network. I focused less on the projects being offered in the past year and more on the people I want in my network and it’s been a lot better, plus the work has improved. Not sure if this is relevant but it has made me happier in work
I was feeling like this 2-3 months ago. you have to be realllly cautious about changing jobs just because you're bored. We barely even have work experience to speak about at interviews. They always treat you nicer as an intern. I'm not happy, but to get experiences/real life skills it seems we have to put in the work or network to get them.
✨ Graduated in the 2020✨ So I’m still just happy to have landed a job tbh. The normal intake at my company was about 100 graduates and this year they only took in five (incl me). Honestly, I like it so far. Despite the circumstances but perhaps because I don’t know what I’m missing out on dueing normal more social times.
Is it just big 4 that’s experiencing this unhappiness
No I’m at GT
I think consulting’s a little bit overrated when WFH
I think its part of the environment. WFH is vastly different compared to office. Happy hours, travel, change of scenery, talking to people outside of conference calls all make the job better
Feel the exact same way, Lots of the entry level projects are basically glorified intern work, I haven’t had any time for professional development bc I was put on a project as soon as I started. Meanwhile every time I tell my manager I want to learn new skills she tells me to “work hard and be patient” instead of giving practical advice for how I can get more client visibility....
I’ve been unhappy since day one! Over a year and a half in and I have some good days but overall I’m over it.
Definitely been hard for me with wfh as people might just forget that you don’t really know the ropes yet and sometimes expect too much out of you without much guidance.
Same boat, it’s brutal and some of my team members are ass who get me scapegoated too
~1 year. Helps that I enjoy my team, and I have a great boss. Work is interesting and I feel like I’m always learning / given the space and encouragement to learn new stuff. The team builds a product so I guess it helps that there’s always something new to look into or develop.
D - Asset space. They have several in the works right now on the gps side
