So I have had the virus - just tested negative so it is behind me. While I understand the allure of what you are saying....let me just fill you in on a couple of things. First, I am not young, but having had this I understand why it kills. Even young people die. Maybe a smaller percentage but this virus seems to know how to exploit any weakness your body has - and you may have stuff wrong that you don’t know is wrong and may not affect your for decades unless you get the virus. I am healed but I still get really winded walking around. I fear I have permanent damage to my lungs. At some point in the future I need that looked at. As noted above people are getting blood clots because their young healthy immune systems are over fighting this. This is causing strokes in young people - ages 30-50. These are strokes normally seen in people over 70. So sure go and get it if you can guarantee you can only get a minor case. Maybe you’ll get it and be asymptomatic. However if you get it the way I had it you may die. Maybe the antibodies will protect us in the future. Maybe they won’t. I would honestly do your best to stay healthy and alive. Intentionally catching this isn’t the best way to guarantee that.

Was just reading an article today about young people with mild cases getting strokes and losing their ability to speak. I’m gonna go seek that out. Sounds lit.

If I give you 100 skittles and one of them will kill you, how many of my skittles are you going to eat?

likesmart

Young and healthy people are also dying from it too. There’s also no proof you will be immune so what’s the point of getting it on purpose

like

Again what’s the point if there’s no immunity. And why would you want to purposefully stress out your family.

like

Sounds like a great idea! If you get it you can always just drink bleach.

No dude, mortality rate isn’t the whole story — what’s the rate of permanent lung damage? Hospitalization rate? Ventilator rate? The rate of people being completely bedridden for weeks? Rate of spread? My 26 year old marathon running friend got it and was one step away from having to go to the hospital. Couldn’t leave his room for 19 days. Spread it to his gf immediately. They both may have permanent lung damage now. And they’re not even counted in the statistics

Med student here and I was on the wards until recently when they kicked us out due to lack of PPE. There are lots of young people. I’m talking 20-40 year olds. Some are athletic as heck and don’t have any cardio respiratory illnesses but they now have permanent pulmonary fibrosis - it means your lung is scarred and can no longer expand the way it used to. Once something is scarred, it can’t go back to what it used to. If you were a triathlete before this virus, it’s safe to say you’d no longer be one. So good luck to you.

I am tax lawyer. So what do I know. I shared what I learned as a patient and being on the otter side of it now...likely with permanent lung damage. So listen to PwC4 who has seen it first hand. Thanks you for everything for working the wards. It has meant a ton to people like me who love life and want to keep living. Please stay well. Stay healthy.

As long as you legally certify now that you refuse all hospitalization and will not come across any other human being till two weeks after you are recovered - go for it!

And won’t use public services for any ensuing disability.

This basically sums up the last 1.5 months or so.

If you go out and get infected, you risk infecting others in turn, many of whom are at higher risk than you. The larger the infected proportion of the population, the more likely that at-risk people are exposed. And if too many at-risk people are exposed at once, the healthcare system becomes overwhelmed and risks collapse.

like

Also, some studies are showing impact to the lungs even in mild cases. We don’t yet know how bad the damage may be, or how permanent. Even if you’re more likely to survive, it‘a probably not worth risking long-term impact to your health.

Leaving this here from the WHO: “There is currently no evidence that people who have recovered from Covid-19 and have antibodies are protected from a second infection,” the United Nations agency said in an April 24 statement. https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2020-04-25/catching-covid-19-may-not-shield-against-new-infection-who-says

Agreed with your thought process but that’s not gonna be helpful for half the country who support trump - remember he denounced WHO and wants to block funding? They no longer trust anyone else but him. It’s a shit show 😂

Death rate. The vaccine is a while away. It maybe better to have that demographic start to build herd immunity so we get back to “normal”.

funny

Have you also read that immunity isn’t guaranteed here? Individuals who have gotten it are contracting it again. Normal hinges on a vaccine, so please be patient, safe and stay home.

This is a bad idea. But even if you're convinced it's not- why no wait a month or two until hospital capacity isnt as stretched? (Depends where you are obviously)

like

I think you should try it

funny

This can’t be a serious question. How exactly would you go about getting COVID on purpose?

like

Free hugs?

funny

Yea, I think it's probably smart to take a small load.

You don’t like taking big loads?

likefunny

Agreed it’s not fair to do this if you get others unwittingly sick. All infected quarantining guidelines would be followed.

I actually have no problem if you want to risk it and don’t infect anyone else. Only thing is if you get seriously ill and need hospitalisation, you’ve basically wasted a bed that someone less blasé could have used and added to workload of people already under insane loads of stress.

Is this churn happening at other firms too?
