Not at good agencies
Strategists are great! Probably the most important part of an agency. My frustrations have usually come from account managers being spineless in pushback.
No, you
Some of my favorite people at my agency are strategists. I try and soak up as much as I can from them since they’re “the voice of the consumer.”
But I try to work with them lockstep. If not, we’ll hash it out.
Not if they are both doing their jobs well.
Only time I have a problem is when the brief doesn’t have strong insights.
If there are strong insights and nothing else, I’m happy.
If there are strong insights and creative thought starters, I’m happy.
If there are strong insights, and creative thought starters, and there’s a build on the concept during the review, I’m happy.
If there aren’t any strong insights, I’m not super happy. And I’m less happy when a strategist wants to get in my way while I’m scrambling to essentially do their job (identify an insight) and develop ideas.
Yes because strategists are failed/wanna-be creatives whose value is extremely dubious.
Ehh, actually I think you were trying to make a jab at CD1 but inadvertently did the whole strategist thing with it.
Otherwise, you’re the punch line...
Edit: it occurs to me that I’m ignoring the possibility that you’re actually a very good strategist who’s spent most of their career at agencies where you wouldn’t see these kinds of characters. Look who’s the joke now!
No. Strategists and account people often at odds. Fighting with the creatives helps no one.
Not at all. My strategist just handed me a genius campaign concept while we were having just a regular conversation about the account. It wasn’t what he was trying to do and that’s what makes him amazing.
I prefer not to
are we?
Never heard this. Creatives vs. brand is the only real fight. Strategists just end up in between.
I love my strategists
no i believe creatives and account are always in a fight
Strategy and account used to be the same person. Was cool with it.
