No, stop generalizing women in the workforce to your one bad manager.
The more likely scenario is your own bias is causing you to think she’s more assertive and unkind when you and view a male manager with the same personality as a strong leader
Because it’s a tired trope about women being “the bitch” when they are assertive in the workplace.
No, the data strongly supports the opposite actually: women are typically better leaders.
No. I have worked for female CEOs, female managers, female project managers and I would say that overall they are much more open to you asking questions.
When working under a guy, I’ve always felt like I can’t ask questions and need to google my way to the end result.
Sure there are exceptions, but overall (as a man) I prefer working with a women. They’re much better communicators.
seeing you use one point of data to generalize the whole set of people is the most concerning thing here. That’s a major logic issue
Best boss I ever had was a woman. Worst boss I ever had was a man. That being said using your own personal experience to make a generalization is a bad practice (cargo cult science). Many different people have many different experiences.
This is not the correct Avenue to ask this. If you are legitimately curious, then look up some type of public employee satisfaction data (if such is available).
As a man, I prefer female managers, because there’s typically no ego bullshit involved (that happens almost exclusively with men) and it’s easier to communicate. It’s really hard to generalize though, just my preference based on a small sample (maybe ~10 managers).
No. Just damaged people of all gender that get to be the boss.
Have had good and bad women managers. The bad usually follows the same traits as male managers - a tendency to parent vs manage, and title privilege. The parenting manager is the worst - male or female, although I suspect most of us have a stronger bias against the opposite sex acting as a parenting manager given our tendency towards seeking role models for ourselves.
Generally better. But, the rule of thumb doesn't matter. The individual you are working with matters.
In my experience in the corporate world, my woman managers have been much better advocates for my success and visibility. We shouldn’t make generalizations on a whole group based on anecdata, though. Your question’s responses are therefore probably pretty meaningless.
My best managers were female
There are no generalizations here. You could ask the same about a male manager and female IC, or male manager and male IC, female manager and female IC. Everyone will have a different experience because it's based on personality and ways of working, not gender. I believe you had a tough time with your past manager, but don't assume that'll be your experience in the future.
My two best bosses were female. Although one did not like working with females. 😀
