I doubt it... wired internet is quickly giving way to wireless cell based LTE and 5G systems. I think the racket the telecom companies today (charging up to $200 for “fast” internet will give way to cheaper and faster wireless based systems

likeuplifting

What’s crazy is the Ethernet and WiFi we have in our houses is 100mb for the most part... internet faster than that is pretty irrelevant unless you are using a wired gigabit connection to a computer 5G is 100mb - 20GB, it’s going to make wired internet obsolete very soon.. Not that those types of speeds are even remotely necessary today...

Did something happen that would make them more likely to do so than any other time?

Used to have 100mbps up/down for 39.99 through Verizon. They did a free upgrade to 200 up/down for the same price last month DC area

@EY1 I wonder if it’s a county thing. I’m in Fairfax and there were a ton of taxes added by Verizon like a phone bill. My Comcast bill was originally 39.99, is now $49.99 out the door for 100mb (actually see 93mb over WiFi which is pretty good considering my home network is 100mb) I do line the fast upload / symmetry of FIOS, but I don’t really have any need for it and like saving a few hundred a year

My ISP waived data overage charges through June and raised the base data amount. 1229 GB per month seems like a lot of data, but when you have kids streaming 4K Netflix on multiple devices for large parts of the day... it gets used up. Personally I’d prefer throttling instead of overage charges. Of course I’d love to see the usage requirements go away but we only have one viable high speed internet provider in my area so don’t expect them to have any motivation to give stuff away.

There are some settings in Netflix to throttle streams to more efficient bitrates

Was invited to apply for a lateral in another group at my company - transactional (I’m in lit now). I have a lot of experience in what I do now and am getting good development opportunities within my group. However, I’ve been passed over for a deserved promotion 3 times and am doing work two salary bands above where I am now. I enjoy the transactional work even though I have less experience in it, and it would be a great resume builder. I am not great with risk taking/change. Wwyd?

What does each firms performance review process look like? I’ll kick off - we have individual case reviews after each case and each 6 months we have a formal consensus review process where all seniors in the level above you discuss each candidate and their rating / promotion decision if they are up for promotion. We also have these mini consensus reviews at the 3 months mark as well within these 6 months to discuss off cycle promotions. What do you like / dislike about yours?

Is your company doing annual raises this year? If so, what’s the typical annual raise (%)?

If you started working at a company for like a year as a staff level, for example 2019-present, and this is reflected on LinkedIn, do you guys update any promotions to show it as (the date or year of promotion) -present... or just show it as 2019-present? I’ve seen people do the latter more but is that even right?

Hi fishes, I am currently a staff 3 at EY GDS and got confirmation on my promotion. I will be a S1 effective from october and i got the exceptional performer rating. But i have 3 YOE with 8 LPA and i received an indirect hint that my hike wont be good. Please let me know your thoughts? How much can i expect in terms (%) increment this year based on the promotion? Is that even dependent on the promotion? And should i look for other opportunities considering the YOE and current package?

Currently interviewing for a designer role at Tesla - wanted some advice. The hiring manager has seemed uninterested and always dropped off interviews early and without answering any of my questions. He also mentioned that he's lost 4 designers from the team recently (red flag!). I think it'd be a cool role, but it sounds like I'd be the only designer and there's not a ton of support, BUT if I do well - lots of room for growth and promotion. Plus internal transfers after a year also an option?
