Are lawyers manipulative in relationships?

Yes. Every single one.

Also all doctors are arrogant and politicians are liars and athletes are cheaters.

Interesting generalization

I think profession is less important than the person. I am married to a lawyer, he really loves to recreationally argue. He is also devoted to being a great father to our kids. And, they are (usually) going to be smart and ambitious. So, don’t generalize by type, find the best fit for you.

Thanks VP

I have been in a relationship with a lawyer would was very manipulative and would try to "lawyer" me during arguments. Just be cautious and stand your ground to know when somebody is gaslighting you, lawyer or not

Why you asking OP?

Consultants seriously are the worst - self involved cheaters who bang whoever is on their current project, and always whining that they aren’t paid “what they are worth.” Avoid consultants like the f*ing plague.

It’s a very broad generalization. It might vary by the type of law (litigators are probably different than immigration attorney personalities). My husband is an intellectual property attorney and ultimately more of a nerd. He used to use his attorney mojo in me if we were arguing but I knew what that looks like so I shut it down.

But age, background, etc. have as much to do with their approach to people and relationships more than the career.

Looking to pivot to an industry/company that is mission driven, or at the very least to a group that does meaningful work within a larger company that might not necessarily be considered mission driven. Any suggestions on industries or companies that are mission driven but also pay competitively? I currently work in the legal department of a major financial services institution and can’t afford to take a pay cut, but would really like to find some meaning or at least interest in my work.

How do you feel about/manage lifestyle creep?

I’m 5 years in (not an analyst anymore btw) and have always been conscious about making financial decisions that are sustainable (not going crazy on shopping, eating out). I might be conservative, but the industry can be tough (up or out) so who knows what the future will lie and what potential paycut I may one day have to take.

If my home appraisal comes in lower than contract price, am I stupid to cover the balance in cash if I have it or does that mean I’ll have an issue down the line wrt a resale? FWIW the appraisal and contract price is about $18k off. And no the seller isn’t budging on price. Help!
