We are lobsters in a lobster trap, lured by the sweet smell of money only to find ourselves entrapped.

No, but we are weird and obsessive.

likefunny

This is the correct answer lol. Not necessarily smarter than anyone else, just willing to spend time obsessing over things.

I find lawyers are smarter than your average joe but rarely the smartest people you’ll meet

likesmart

Most of the truly smart people you don’t meet. They’re sitting in a lab somewhere doing research.

Anyone have three kids and working in big law? I just found out I’m pregnant with no. 3 and it’s been a lot trying to juggle morning sickness, but based on my experience, I know this is only the tip of the iceberg of what’s to come. My husband and I are elated, but the anxiety of being a mom of 3 kids and working in big law is preventing me from truly enjoying this news. It would be good to know what it’s really like having 3 kids so that I can evaluate how long I really have left in big law.

I work as an Associate at a VC fund. I started working at the company almost a year ago. We recently looked to hire another associate for the fund. I ran the search and we found a candidate we liked and then I found out that the other candidate got offered $15K more than what I am making.

For context, I am the only non-parter on the investment team so there is no one else to compare myself to.

Feeling demotivated. Has anyone else experienced this?

So, I'm happy at my current job and have been there about 18 months. Our pay is probably 15% below market (AmLaw 100) but so are our billable requirements. An interview for another firm kind of fell into my lap, and I'm debating whether to take it just for the sake of seeing what market really is. Is there something shady about interviewing somewhere you're not totally committed to accepting an offer from?
