I’ve been told there’s an opportunity for me in Hong Kong but I have to raise my profile there and to have networked with circa 400 people before landing. I have no contacts there yet so don’t even know where to begin. Any advice?

Currently mainly doing 3rd line work, and most of my projects have been around SOX controls. Not the most fulfilling to say the least, but approaching promotion time. Just got an offer to be an Enterprise Risk Analyst, but later found out that I would be mainly doing reconciliations. The senior analyst that would train me said they are building out a system via alteryx for automation. It sounds interesting. Should I take offer if pay is about same? What else should I consider?

Help! I think I’m about to get a promotion (try not to tear me apart on that, CDs have talked to me about it) but I’m also trying to move cities shortly. There is a job I’m really interested..

I got down leveled at Google when I joined from Meta (was at PWC before Meta). My manager over promised me at hiring, and now I realize promotion is impossible within 2 years and I’m looking at internal mobility options. I was hired at L6 for a GTM strategy role and I have been at Google slightly over a year. In my case, can ai look for a higher level L7 role at other jobs? Any insights from Googlers?

Just got a raise. Was told I’ve become an integral part of the company. Still getting paid 17k less than my male colleague w less experience who’s lost the agency thousands of $’s from bidding poorly.

Do you have any suggestions for a strong candidate (M-> D) for promotion who overlooked solely because of the practice they are aligned to and was initially denied movement to a different practice?

I’ve been an AAM for over 3 years, while being at my current agency for almost 2. I’ve been trying to advocate for myself for a promotion for a while but no movement, even with positive reviews and keeping up with my growth plan. At my current agency, I’ve also had 3 managers (all white, on separate projects I’ve been on since I started) each get promoted. I have a lot of anxiety because I can’t tell if I’m actually not performing well, or am just being continuously overlooked. Any thoughts?

Got an offer from b4 for a lateral move. The offer was only 7% more than my base with no sign on bonus. I told the recruiter I thought the base was a little low because we have salary raises and bonuses coming eff July and am on target for 10% raise and 10% bonus. What should my counter offer be? I was thinking a 15% salary raise and a 7% sign on bonus would be fair?

My manager told me during performance reviews in February that I was up for promotion, but due to internal issues it would be delayed until late summer (off cycle promotion). She just recently told me that off cycle promotions are really hard this year so it may take longer. What should I do about this? Can I ask for the title bump even if the pay comes next February?

Trying to decide about potentially leaving a job. I’ve been there about 2 years which is the longest I’ve ever been anywhere. I’ve gone from $19 to $22 an hour, gotten bonuses, and have some pretty great benefits. However I’ve also been denied a promotion 3x and feel my responsibility outweighs my pay. There’s another company that’s been sliding in my dm’s offering 60-75k and unlimited PTO, and I’m pretty seriously considering it. But afraid of leaving a team I love and work I don’t mind. WWYD?

When it comes to being promoted within your current agency, is there a standard raise percentage that should ideally come with the title bump?

I have a feeling I won’t make the promotion I wanted...I thought I did everything right but there was one small piece missing that I was not in control of. Worst part is I know mostly everyone else I know will get this promotion. I’ve been losing faith in myself and it doesn’t help that someone told me this week that I’m not good enough for this job. I never get bad performance reviews but I don’t know anymore if I measure up.

Just a Wednesday rant: I turned 40 yesterday and realized I've wasted the prime of my life in consulting. I neglected fam, friends and my own emotional & spiritual needs owing to the adrenaline and stress of this space, and corporate tech in North America in general. The realization hit me like a ton of bricks. I'm going to exit to something super low-key so I can finally start making some memories. Rant over. Thank you for reading.
