I feel like whenever I pitch ideas or brainstorm with my white coworkers, I have such a hard time explaining ideas to them. But when Im with other asians, they get it before I'm done speaking.
Or maybe it's a me problem. Just seeing if anyone else is experiencing this.
(The content isn't about cultural stuff, just regular brainstorming....)
It’s has to do with the “Asian American “experience. People generally source for memories ideas or trends that they have noticed that apply to future facing concepts. Your co-workers probably had a different upbringing so they won’t have the context to your ideas. Spend the time to educate, if it’s a good idea it’ll stick
Yes I completely agree. I experience this all the time. Yes. We do think differently. And that is part of the beauty of brainstorming. What you can do is, try to explain more details of where your ideas come from. Teach them. Also the reason of your hard time might not be because of you but the people you are talking to (white). I had an experience that some coworkers didn’t want to listen to me or interested in my ideas. I believed that it was because of my skin color and background because I didn’t feel the same when I worked with people who had more open minded and wanted to learn where I came from.
