Are Paralegal Certifications from non-ABA approved schools make-or-break when it comes to employment? The one's where I live are expensive, so I'm thinking of enrolling in one by CLS (they're cheaper) but I was cautioned against that

Do you have a bachelor’s degree? If so then why bother with the certification?

like

I'm not having success getting employment so I thought this would help me

Only if you have no experience and no higher ed degree. If you already have either/both then they’re not worth the investment

like

I have a B.A. in English, that's why. I've heard people can still get in but I'm having a hard time being employed in general

Shouldn't matter where you get it from, as long as it's legit. Who told you not to?

I was a paralegal while in Law school and I never had a paralegal cert but I did have my bachelors. It really depends on the firm.

If you purchased a house - how soon after did you decide to start trying if that was your goal?

We are probably buying a home next fall. It won't be a fixer-upper but we have thought about finishing the basement BEFORE we have our first child. I *feel* like we could finish the basement, do some minimal changes and have the house and yard where we would like them by winter of 2024.

I think I'll be 31 when we actually have our first and my spouse will be 34. Anyone in the same boat?

Serious billing question - if during the course of the day, you first receive an email from Client A at say 11:10am and you read it, you then respond to it at 12:20pm. You get another email at 2pm from Client A and respond immediately. The next email comes in at 4pm, you read it and respond only at 4:30pm. None of the email responses take more than 3-5mins. You are working on matters for other clients at all other times during the day. How much are you billing for Client A?

Kind of niche question here but under NY CPLR, if a plaintiff files a MTD/MSJ, and then the defendants file opposition papers containing information that the court had previously ordered to be kept under seal, would you a) file a reply asking to seal/strike the opposition papers or b) file a separate OTSC since you’re now seeking additional relief not sought in the original motion?
