I'm handing in my two weeks next week to go work for a competitor that offered me a 60% salary bump + benefits, after seven months in a contract role. My coworkers have treated me well and I imagine it'll be a surprise that I'm leaving, so how do I structure that conversation? Do I ask my lead if they can meet with me and deliver the news like that, or send an email, or tell my staffing agency first and go from there? It's my first time resigning, so any tips on getting through the conversation?
I generally think that MBB people have high verbal intelligence. They may not be smarter than you but they sure as hell can beat you in conversations, thus, coming across as being smarter than you. Unfortunately, that’s also the type of intelligence that Western society values.

I’ve noticed the complete opposite at the junior levels. This may be true at the more senior levels.
Nope, just more willing to sell our souls

No. They may say so, but no.

I doubt I am smarter than my kid's neighbor - 10yo and that kiddo beat me in chess
Lol if you want to feel dumb, try going to a mathematics research seminar. I majored it and have no idea what most presenters were talking about.
Yea, took 2 theoretical math courses as a senior in college as a stats major. It’s definitely a humbling experience.
From my experience, probably not - just are able to capitalize on the cumulative benefits of a privileged upbringing (very broadly speaking).
There is definitely a large share of folks from humble backgrounds, but I’ve never met such a high concentration of people from privileged backgrounds in my life until I came to McKinsey.
Also, don’t want to sound like I’m underplaying anyones hard work either - everyone here has superhuman work ethic, but it helps to have the leg up.
No
Not from what I have seen.

They hire from EY so obviously not. But it is a signaling device that
1. They MAY have better brands than you prior to EY and 2. Are willing to work 80 hour weeks more frequently than you are. Also 3. That they do more C level work.
Doesn’t mean any of those things are true (except possibly 3), but if it matters enough to you, then you can certainly find your way to one of those. But I’m not sure how much it matters in this market tbh. I’m Accenture and get reached out to on a daily basis for strategy/biz ops and industry director roles and all kinds of other things. Occasionally even some reach things like VC and PE (i bet MBB gets more of these). Maybe in general MBB and T2 gets slightly better roles reaching out on average or a pay premium but i suspect not drastically different.
