As a laid off Deloitte tax person, I’d unfortunately say nope.

Yes I believe so. Got outstanding award too for busy season performance...

Who knows. I feel like two things are certain in life and it isn’t Audit

Talked to a ppmd who is “retiring”, they said firm intel indicates all of the other firms will follow with the same actions at the end of their FYs.

OP - No, tax will also separate people. We may be more secure than Advisory but there will be people separated in all service lines.

If there were layoffs, I believe the rules around people on maternity are different in that they are not protected. However EY is not having layoffs. So I would expect EY3 to be fine and very much hope @EY3 that you are enjoying your maternity leave. Being with your kids, especially when they are young is such a blessing. It is time you will be glad you had with them.

My firm has had two layoff rounds so far and tax in my office is untouched so far. Even our low performers who probably should be separated from the firm still have jobs. I would imagine tax is a little safer right now given the uptick in services due to CARES act etc., but there will be a breakeven point if collections continue to lag. I expect substantial layoffs to occur again through and by next FYE at most firms.

At my firm, majority of the layoffs were tax people. I don’t know if anyone’s job is really safe at this point

Unfortunately was just laid off. I’m taking this as an opportunity to look forward to new experiences and people to work with. If anyone knows of any Producer gigs, I’m now available. I’m agency side.

Looking at the way people are laid off, utilization is just one part of it. It's so hard to pin point what is (proper consultants let go from projects, etc..)

Just letting everyone know that the covid 19 trend is the "covid 20"...just like in freshman year in college...if you didnt put on 20 pounds...good for you but you're not in the cool group. Please refrain from shaming those that put on a few pounds here and there.

In other news: Deloitte is full of trolls that are trying to convince you you're about to be laid off.

Just need to vent: my friend refuses to bring up the topic of covid and how it will likely effect her wedding. She’s just moving forward like we aren’t in a pandemic and it’s becoming exhausting trying to be supportive and excited for her when it feels like she’s living in a fantasy world. She just had us purchase bridesmaids dresses and I can’t help but feel like it was a complete waste of a few hundred dollars. I feel bad for having these thoughts but I’m over it.

Looking to return to Big 4 as a consultant now that I have some experience; however, I’m not sure if the reason I’m not getting any interviews is because of covid or what’s on my resume/lack thereof. Has anyone gotten hired at Big 4 during this time and have any help or insight for me? Thanks!

I have a standing offer with Accenture (AFS). Due to coronavirus, the recruiter told me they are pausing staffing of external people like myself while they take care of internal people on the bench. My recruiter said he would touch base monthly during covid, but usually I’m the one to reach out to him. We haven’t spoken since mid March, so should I reach out? I totally understand if they’re still in the same position as before and nothing changed since mid March in terms of hiring.

Has anyone had the conversation on how we get Ss and Ts ready for returning in the fall? I’m not talking about mask usage, hand washing times, physical distancing in classrooms, etc. I don’t think we can expect Ts and Ss to come back and just hop right into academics. Need sometime to process together, get some SEL, be face to face social again, etc. Just wondering if districts out there have gotten a head start on this task.

Friend wants to join consulting for the pay. I don’t believe she has the aptitude or energy for it. We worked together in a much slower industry, and even there she complained of being overworked. I’ve sent her resources to polish up her resume and links for roles but she’s insisting on texting/long phone calls asking silly questions. Today she wants a resume review over zoom! She comes without having done her homework. How do I tell her I’ve given as much as I can? How do I decline referring?
