Are signing bonuses a normal expectation? Are they generally available or only a possibility if they are included in the original offer? When should they not be requested?

Signing bonuses are not the norm. Typically, we see signing bonuses towards the end of the year when a candidate is bypassing an end of year bonus from their current firm to join a new firm.

like

If you want/need a signing bonus, you should let the recruiter and/or firm know that is a req. in the beginning of the process. You should also have a good reason such as leaving a bonus on the table, relocating, etc.
