2 except pwc which can be 3. Or at least that’s how it was in PWC when I was going through recruitment. But you can be held from a senior promotion. But you have to really struggle.

It’s no longer 3 at PwC. Effective this fiscal year

Most of the time it’s almost automatic unless the firm has a CPA requirement to be promoted. I know a few where you cannot move above associate unless you have your CPA.

If the firm holds you back another year, should i look for new opportunity outside?

Most are promoted after 2 but I see a lot doing 3 especially in audit. I wouldn’t look for new opportunity unless you feel like you’re more than ready for the role and you’re being held back for no reason. Have you done a busy season as an in charge yet?

This busy season

I’m currently in PA working in tax compliance (PE/Hedge) and considering my options. When I spoke with a recruiter seems like there is not a lot of “interesting” tax opportunities in industry that really stuck out to me. They mentioned potential opportunities for a PE controller role. Has anyone ever tried this? It would be a smaller shop so imagine I’d be doing everything if I was considered. Would I be setting myself up for failure?

I just found out that my CPA failed to file my returns and submit payment on time even though they confirmed on the 18th that it was going to be filed that day. I do corporate taxes and have extremely limited experience in personal taxes. What should I be concerned about here other than the penalty and late fees for their negligence?
